TALLAHASSEE, FL -- According to a news release sent by the Terry Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, Florida Speaker Johnnie Byrd will introduce "Terri's Bill" during the special session Monday.

The bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths in Florida. Meanwhile, supporters of Terri Schiavo showed up Sunday outside a Pinellas Park hospice.

Doctors say Schiavo has been in a vegetative state since complications from a heart attack in 1990. Her husband was granted a court order that her feeding tube be removed, saying his wife wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive.

While I am thankful that this poor woman's life has been spared, I have two thoughts.

First, will all those who devoted so much activism and energy for this woman continue to uphold her and her family prayerfully and financially once this story is no longer in the news? I hope that these folks will but I rather doubt it. The family will most likely be left to bear this burden alone.

Second, will the state now be empowered to veto the decisions that I make about the health of my children, or their education and point to this legislation as a precedent? Admittedly the state has intervened in a tough situation but there's an old saying "Tough cases make bad law."

Last week, I was unsure of my beliefs, but I once again believe in the power of my God, and my Government.

Today we have truly witnessed a miracle :) God Bless Terri, Gov. Bush and, of course, FReepers!!!

(doing my happy dance :)

I hope that Monsieur Sh!%head ends up in prison with some very very slippery soap. He won't die, but it would make him wish he had. But then, the prisoners could say, "He really wanted it" and really, how can he object to that?

ROTFLOL!!

No doubt a fine display of conservative compassion. While I am passionately prolife, it is stuff like this that has turned me completely off on the "pro-life Movement."

May I now propose a 24-hour-a-day prayer thread for Terri's recovery and rehabilitation?

I would think if one has a living will, they couldn't.

We all have a right to pursue happiness, which gets thrwarted whenever cruelties are allowed to occur.

Anyone who was getting their information on this case from the news was getting a thin gruel indeed. This has been a grass roots effort for quite some time and the people on this site have done a magnificent job of applying pressure wherever it could be applied. Besides, the battle is far from won. If this case becomes a precedent, I think it will be a precedent against this euthanazi-a by any other name that has been creeping under the radar into our system.

Your "concerns" sound like hand-wringing to me.

Welcome to FR, and I certainly pray for your daughter's condition. This has been an 11th hour miracle, all right! :)

Love it. Great letter. I am seriously thinking of dropping them, as I pay extra every month for the package that includes Fox News. That is the ONLY reason I have it. I do not need it otherwise. I think Dish will be hearing from me tomorrow.

YES - 348

NO - 908 (72%)

This is very surprising and disappointing. Although the general public hasn't heard anything or if they have it's that Terri is a vegetable.

I must have missed this one. She is now believed to be at Morton Plant Hospital and her parents and siblings are heading there as we speak.

I voted on this one, but to be honest, I'm beginning to believe these polls are rigged the way they want the outcome to be and no amount of our voting can change it.
