A Florida Vigil for Terri Schiavo will be held outside Woodside Hospice, Pinellas Park, at 1 p.m. this afternoon. If anyone has the exact address, please post.

A 3 p.m. Vigil in front of the White House, Washington, D. C., will be held this afternoon, coordinated by an organization for the disabled. Please make every effort to attend ~ those who cannot, be much in prayer, especially during those hours. Pray God that He yet intervenes ~

I believe they are allowed to be there as long as there is a representative of Michael's team. I ahve heard the Michael's girlfriends mother is ther equite a bit by Terri's bedside. But that sometimes she is not , so parents are then not allowed.

How about that kind of a care from Michael, the hospice nurse, who works right in the hospice where Terri is, and demands how much he loves her, isn't even around. What a scum.... He got the money to be a hospice nurse from her settlment, then becomes a hospice nurse claiming it was to care for her, I aks was it really to learn how to kill her.. who knows how hard Terri has had to fight these last few years with this guy approved to give her medicine and to to what ever he wants legaly because he is her "gaurdian and hospice nurse" Jeezse.... what is the world comming to?

Jim, I can understand that your experience with your father shapes your opinion in this case. I watched my father die as well. Laryngeal cancer was his disease. My father, like yours, was a vet, a hardworking man, as decent as they can come and he starved/dehydrated to death. His tumor grew that is pressed his esophogus closed and he could not consume liquids. His death was absolutely horrible. I too remember the look on my father's face when he would try to swallow a small portion of water and it would come out of his nose. He would cry silent tears and beg God for a drop to quench his thirst.

Jim, one thing you may not be understanding is the questionable circumstances of the case as a whole. In our cases our fathers were terminal. Terri is not. Court testimony by those better to judge than you and I states that she would live a long life and that therapy would help her. Her husband decided that she would want to die only after he received a monetary reward. Prior to his getting the money he vowed to use it to care for her. To take her home. How much he loved her, after all, she was his life.

He has refused to do any of the things he swore in court to do. He has not even been at her bedside as a caring husband. He has been living with a woman for 7 years and has a child with her and is expecting another. They are engaged to be married. His future MIL is the representative that he chose to be with Terri at this time. Is that not a slap in the face to his present inlaws? They have to be monitored by the mother of his "fiance".

Jim, I am emotional about this having a relative in Terri's condition. I will admit to that. But I am also able to see that there are some serious problems surrounding Terri's care, the court'd decisions, and his motives.

I AM RESPONDING: "No, Georgia_JimD, GOD-Husband-Michael has spent NOTHING---NOT ONE DIME---on Terri's rehab, for which he was awarded $750,000. It was NOT awarded to pay for legal costs. His use of it constitutes MISAPPLICATION OF FIDUCIARY PROPERTY---A CRIME!!!

I AM ADDING: "Indeed, it is precisely BECAUSE he FRAUDULENTLY obtained and failed to use the $750,000 REHABILITATION award for Terri's REHABILITATION, that he has the legal costs!

I AM ADDING: "But for GOD-Husband-Michael's MISAPPLICATION OF FIDUCIARY PROPERTY, he would NOT have had ANY legal expenses.

Jim, Jim, please be very careful when stating the difference between Terri ( a non-dying, non-"vegetable" person,) and someone who is terminal.
I am sorry for your experience with your father, I too, went thru terminal cancer watching my husband of 39 years die inch by inch.
I had to fight hospice, because they insisted he wear a green plastic bracelet that instructed anyone to DNR (which I DID NOT sign, nor he) in order not to "waste" any medical money in a terminal person!!
But I desperately needed the hospice doctor-prescription help they offered me, so stayed with them, just kept adamant of my position. They used a lot of pressure on me to have him wear this little green reminder his upcoming death and of saving money, but I would not give in.

A dear frined of mine experienced an obscene event with hospice, also.
She was caring for a terminal lady when the lady fell and broke her hip. The lady was screaming in agony, so she called an ambulance, and got chewed out by the hospice because of the wasting money. You are instructed (on hospice) to NOT call any medical help, but to call the hospice, and hope they show up.
In my case, I called them Christmas day, they never came until the DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS!!!!! (and he died that day).

I also would advise you to carefully examine your living will.
Of all the respones/threads on Terri, a lot of comments state whether the poster wants no life support, yet they won't separate the issues of food/water. Ask them if they would agree to going through a starving/dehydration ugly death? Or do they just want no respirator? Or heart stimulator/help?
Think about it.

The test being used is the ability to get a spoon to one's own mouth: if she could do that, she could live.

Actually, it isn't. The test is whether she can march herslf down the cafeteria and get herself some food.

Judge Greer has forbidden that she be forbidden oral food or hydration, on the basis of a doctor's testimony that attempting to feed her orally could cause pneumonia. Given that (per an affidavit) a nurse earlier once tried, with some success, to feed her jello and was at least successful until she was discovered, the Schiavo Triumvirate don't want to take any chances of her surviving on oral sustenance.

As far as I know people have been encouraged to come down to Florida to the Vigil. The hour is getting late and Terri needs all the prayers, etc. she can get. She also needs a Governor to step in. Do you have all the details?

A woman I consider one of my grannies died of stomach cancer 8-9yrs ago. She wanted and got every possible treatment until nothing was really helping anymore. She was so lively and witty up until the end. I remember just a few weeks before she died, she was jokingly refering to her pee-collector bag-thingy (whatever it's called) and her "piss pot." Keep in mind this was our church's pastor's elderly mother. When it came to the very end, and she was unconscious, the family decided they wanted her to die at home. Everyone that knew her knew she would want that. She lived about a week, but wasn't starved. She died from the illness, not lack of treatment. Comparing someone dying of a terminal illness with Terri is apples and oranges. There is nothing to compare other than the feeding tube.

I've only been to 2 funerals in my entire life and hers was one of them. The night before her funeral we all got together at the family's house and it was the oddest thing. We were up the entire night talking about all the hilarious things she ever said and did and laughed all night long over stories about her. It was something none of us even expected to happen but was comforting.

Now, with my 'nanny', as I always called her (my mom's mother.. her's was the only other funeral i've been to), it was a different story. She was terrified of dying. She wanted any and all possible measures taken to keep her alive no matter what. But she had emphazema and heart disease. She went 2 weeks saying she felt better those two weeks than she had in many many years of sickness. She was even back to playing bingo at the Moose Club. Suddenly, she ran a fever, became disoriented and was rushed to the hospital. She was *terrified* that she was about to die. Within just a few hours she was dead. The doctor's never gave us an adequate reason for the sudden death either. The doctor's refused to request an autopsy and my family at the time couldn't afford the $1000 to get one anyway. There was a strong suspicion that the doctors had made a screw up and wanted to cover their ass. It is on one hand comforting to know though that she died very quickly with minimal if any pain. But it also disturbs me to know that she was in the ER in a room waiting for a doctor to even see her for over an hour while she had already realized she was about to die and was so completely terrified of dying.

My mom is the same way. If something happens to her, she wants *any* possible measures to keep her alive. Even if she's in a coma.

So, I guess what i'm trying to say here is that everyone's idea of how they would want to live or die is different. Just because you may not want to live in a condition like Terri doesn't mean Terri herself doesn't want to live.

I'm not sure exactly what prompted me to even tell the long winded stories above but the words just came to me and I felt like I needed to share it with *someone*. I'm not even sure who exactly that someone is, so that's why I left the To: field blank.

The only person she is a burden to is her husband who wants to kill her. Her family seem to really love her.

Special Session Called in State Legislature

Speaker of the House, Johnnie Byrd to introduce “Terri’s Bill”

Clearwater, FL October 19, 2003: The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, has called a special session of the Florida Legislature for Monday, October 20, 2003. At that time, Florida’s Speaker of the House will introduce “Terri’s Bill”. By Florida law, two thirds majority vote are required to have a topic entered.

Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President, Jim King is against this bill.

The Bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths currently pending in Florida.

We have come to a time when the merchants of death have created a constitutional crisis and a justice gridlock, while the rightful life of Florida’s disabled and vulnerable citizens tragically hang on Terri Schindler-Schiavo’s court ordered dehydration and starvation death.

We urge all concerned Floridians to contact their Senators and State House members to vote for Terri’s bill.

I still agree with the husband's rights, as cruel as they may seem to most people.

Guess in your mind MS is the only one with rights. Do you think for one moment that Terri would have wished that her parents be tormented by him all these years. She was thinking of divorcing him. He is not part of her family. His claim to be her husband is bogus unless of course you believe in adultery and or bigamy. He lost his rights to speak for Terri as her husband the minute he started sleeping/living with another woman.

This family deserves all our prayers. All the ugliness around the court system and money has opened a lot of eyes. I think the media is playing the public on all sides of this. It truly is a family matter. It's sad to see the courts had to get involved from the start. This seems to all come down to money and it's sad to see a family torn apart by it. The truth is that this happens everyday in contested wills all over the US. It's exposing a very ugly side of people and everyone wants to not air their dirty laundry.
