I'll pray for Terri Schiavo but I agree with the courts here to a point. The medical costs must be staggering and I personally would hate to be a burden on my family for that long. I don't agree with taking away a feeding tube and letting her starve to death. Death by leathal injection is more humane. If her parents want to continue their hope for her, they should do it out of pocket at this point.
I'll be more than happy to debate this in a civil discussion but don't curse me for my personal opinion...

Unfortunately, your opinion does not reflect pertinent facts in this case--including the $1 million award designated for Terri's rehab that was frittered away by her husband. Likewise, her parents offered to pay the husband to care for Terri themselves.
The husband petitioned for Terri's death months--not years--after winning the $1.3 million award. $300,000 went directly to hubbie for loss of consortium. During the malpractice trial, Schiavo pleaded for monetary assistance to care for his wife. He conveniently "recalled" Terri's death wish soon after the money was put in his control.

Do you know how this has affected him finacially before the money was granted? I don't see 1 million dollars going very far in the care here for the last 13 years. If the parents want to take up the finacial cost I believe the courts should allow that, and the money should be awarded properly between all the people involved.
To: NautiNurse
Also consider how much this costs emotionally. To the family as a whole. Including her parents... I pray they will all come to a common gound and settle everything as a family....

My understanding is that not one dime was spent toward Terri's rehabilitation to improve her function. It has been frittered away for attorney fees. As soon as the money was in his control, Terri was moved from a nursing home to the Hospice, where Schiavo's attorney George Felos was on the Board of Directors. This entire saga reeks of corruption.
I always thought that Hospice was for the terminally ill, with an estimated 6 months to live. Schiavo put strict controls over visitation by the family as soon as Terri was moved there. No one has been allowed to try to feed her since then. When she lived in the nursing home, they used to spoon feed her. Of course, no rehab has been permitted to improve Terri's function.

I'm assuming, and I don't know what the family was doing up to date, but that is not uncommon when posturing for a known battle when money and courts get involved. I don't agree that "not one dime" came out of pocket. He has suffered as much as her family. I suspect he saw this day coming all along and was prepaired for the courts.

Untouchable Riches Joy comes in the morning
At the break of day
Driving out the darkness
As you kneel and pray
Come into His Presence
Come before His Throne
Come into the Light
This earth is not your home
The seas may rage in anger
The mountains all fall down
But men can't steal your joy
Or touch your heavenly crown

Repeat: Not one dime of the malpractice award designated specifically for rehabilitation to improve Terri's functioning was spent for that intended purpose.
Schiavo never, ever mentioned Terri's desire to die before he had $1.3 million reasons. He testified (pleaded) during the malpractice trial for money to care for her.

What beautiful praise to wake to this morning. Thank you.

Thanks. My intent is to urge all Christians to enter into that place today and while there to plead diligently for Terri Schiavo, her family, our leaders, and our nation.
I also ask everyone to urge their churches to join in united and urgent entreaties to the Lord today in this regard.
Prayer changes things.

13 years and he didn't spend any out of pocket expenses directly or indirectly?? Not likely... It's a nice hunk of money, I agree, but how much is the loss of a spouse worth? What was her potential income to the family? You can't argue the money with me. He deserves quite a bit of it.
To: Georgia_JimD
So you are saying that Terri Schiavo did not deserve the opportunity for rehabilitation services. You can't argue that one to fruition.
To: NautiNurse
No. I don't. It's pointless because they have been doing just that for the last 13 years and nothing has changed. I'm sure the courts and doctors know best in this case.
To: Georgia_JimD
okay. I see you do not know the difference between rehabilitation therapy and maintenance care. When you understand the difference, let me know.

Matthew 25
The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations
31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[3] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
41"Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
44"Then they also will answer Him,[4] saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' 45Then He will answer them, saying, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

No. I don't. It's pointless because they have been doing just that for the last 13 years and nothing has changed. I'm sure the courts and doctors know best in this case. She was never given any rehabilitative therapy . Michael Schiavo has provided only subsistence care for his wife.
Terri's parents have been trying to obtain guardianship and provide their daughter with rehabilitative therapy that medical professionals have said will allow her to improve significantly.
She never had a chance. Now that Michael and Jodi's 2nd child is on the way, Terri is only in the way. It is a crime to starve a dog, but it okay to starve Terri. This is awful!
