I think Jeter's trying to get Lowe's pitch count up as much as possible to force Grady Little to go to the 'pen.

Alot of people assume that Yankee fans are fair weather fans. I've been a Yankee fan since '73, so I started when they were pretty mediocre. Names like Horace Clarke, Jim Ray Hart, Jim Mason. Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich (these guys always are listed in the same sentence).

McCarver's book was one of the worst I've ever read. I think only Billy Martin's book was worse.

Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich Peterson lived in my town in NJ. At least he did until he swapped families w/Kekich

Yep, the Yanks had quite a dry spell between '62 and '76. .....the worst teams in their (post 1920) history. My two favorite players from that era were Roy White and Bobby Murcer. .....and Munson, of course (although he came around in the latter part).

Only Steve Carlton (one on baseball's all time biggest jerks) liked McTurd.

The Sox have a lot of M's in their lineup. Manny, Martinez, Mueller, Millar, Mirabelli, Mike (Timlin). I hope I don't get called on the carpet for pulling a McCarver with that observation (hey, McCarver, Morgan, [Jon] Miller, there's three MORE M's right there...)

Ok, I just have to point out how ridiculous it is that the Sox adopted this 'cowboy up' phrase! It is completely inappropriate...this is coming from someone who is from rural OK and grew up going to rodeos, where the phrase cowboy up got its start.
I would be understanding of a team in a 'cowboy' state adopting the phrase...but not Boston!
As for there being the whole deal with 'illegal' shirts beign sold....I guess there is a man who is claiming that he copyrighted the phrase and that only shirts that he liscenses can be sold with the phrase. I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that this one man (who my husband thinks he heard them say is from MA) is liscencing every single shirt that is sold with this phrase...do they actually know anything about the number of shirts that are sold at home with a scene depicting rodeo and the phrase 'cowboy up' on it?
Sorry...guess I'm getting a bit fired up about this...

Contreras should be in soon. I hope.

Mueller as "Miller". Is this the correct pronunciation? Yup, not to be confused with Millar, the first baseman.

Steve Carlton The most underrated pitcher in baseball history, imo.
To: Mr. Mojo
I've heard it pronounced 2 different ways. I say Mu'eller, but I don't know what's the right way.
To: Mr. Mojo
Yeah, in the early '70's they had the nucleus of a good club with White and Munson. I think they picked up Nettles and Chamblis from Cleveland, and they were on their way.

I notice things like that too. The Mariners (M's) used to have a starting rotation of Mike Moore, Mike Morgan, Matt Young and Mark Langston.

Nixon goes out swinging, after a 3-0 count. 1 out.

Carlton won 27 games for a team that won about 54 games. Second all time in K's. His being underrated came from the fact that he was such a complete jerk.
To: demlosers
Didn't Bill Mueller come from the Cubs? I don't recall him being such a great hitter then.

Beautiful......Wells comes back from a 3 - 0 count for a K.
The late 70's Yankee teams will always be my favorite. .....growing up with them and all.
