Manchin on changing parties: 'I don’t know where in the hell I belong' "I don't think the R's would be any more happier with me than D's are right now," Manchin says

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said Tuesday morning that "it would be much easier" to be a Republican but he's not planning to switch political parties at this time.

Manchin said people have approached him "every day" about changing his political party.

"Do you think by having a D or an I or an R is going to change who I am? I don't think the R's would be any more happier with me than D's are right now," Manchin said during an Economic Club event in Washington, D.C. "I mean that's about as blunt as I can put it so I don’t know where in the hell I belong."

Manchin said he never received support from the far left or far right in his career.

Talk of Manchin, a moderate Democrat in a Red-leaning state and an increasingly progressive-mined party, switching parties reigniated last week after a news report stating he had recently discussed such a move.

The Republicans will be a heck of a lot more happier with Manchin than the Dems are, cause a Manchin switch will give the Republicans the majority in the US Senate.

Certainly not the “I learned proper grammar in school wing” either - more happier?

Manchin will go for reelection and he will probably win either way.

Come on over, Manchin. You’d make an excellent placeholder.

If Manchin switches parties, what would prevent Murkowski or Romney to go over to the Democrats? Their reelection chances are slim to none anyway

Manchin is a Dem who just won in a deep red state.
Romney and Murkowski are Republicans in very red states. They switch and they are finished.

West Virginia is deep red too. Manchin would be nuts not to at least consider switching parties.

He can be an Independent and caucus with the Republicans. No primaries to worry about that way. He will be as big a kingmaker as “Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords”. They won’t kill him, since he’d just be replaced with an R.

Below some issues which make headlines, Manchin has been a very reliable vote for Schumer, including on far left judges.

He could act more safely and naturally conservatively as a rogue Dem or as an Independent than he ever could as a member of the Republican caucus. He and Trump should start a coffee clatch and see what happens.

He’s right. He should be an independent but that has it’s disadvantages too. Republicans would deal with him better than the commies. They Dems will run him out of the party at some point.

Manchin's choice is clear:

Does he want to spend his career as a majority Democrat trying to block laws that the voters in his state don't want, or does he want to spend his career as a majority Republican trying to pass laws that the voters in his state do want?

Romney will always be there for you even though McCain is gone.
