Time for the Democrats to get ruthless
The Salt Lake Tribune ^ | September 9, 2019 | David Leonhardt, The New York Times

How important do Democrats think it is to beat President Donald Trump in 2020?

Obviously, most Democrats would say it’s vitally important. Four more years of the Trump presidency could allow him to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. It would worsen the climate crisis. It could cement his paranoid racism and scorn for democracy as the new American normal.

Given these consequences, you would think that Democrats would be approaching the 2020 campaign with a ruthless sense of purpose. But they’re not, at least not yet. They are not focusing on issues that expose Trump’s many vulnerabilities. They have instead devoted substantial time to wonky subjects that excite some progressive activists — and alienate most American voters. Recent polls suggest that the Democrats really are increasing the chances Trump will win reelection.

The good news is that the campaign is still just getting started. Many Americans haven’t yet paid much attention. The next phase starts Thursday night, with a debate in Houston featuring the 10 leading candidates.

I saw it was the NY Times, so I automatically disregarded the whole article.

I wonder how many young Democrats are aware that older Democrats are betraying them for rich voters? And do the young Democrat women realize that older Democrat women are helping to force them to carry babies full term, because those older women want more babies on the adoption market?

Oh, yeah. We'll lose for sure, if they get mean enough. ;)

BTW, that first comment of mine is an idea for dissemination to left-leaning discussion boards.

There is no “climate crisis”. It is a hoax. The left are using fake climate change as a way to sneak in socialist programs.

I have yet to see any real documented evidence that President Trump is racist. Getting control of our borders is not racist, it is good government practice.

We don’t live in a democracy, we live in a republic. I don’t think anyone would want to live in a democracy if they truly understood what it was (two wolfs and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner).

If the author was honest he would simply argue that it is important to win 2020 because President Trump is blocking their path to a socialist utopia.

We all know how damning pictures can be...such as all the bimbos that ‘fought’ to have their pictures taken and ‘kitties’ grabbbed by that RICH, not so bad looking TV and REAL ESTATE star, ‘King’(well one of them) of both NY and Hollywood.

Wait for the photo drop that will show ALL the Black and various other minorities that PDJT has embraced in the past be it as a ‘donation’ to certain causes to advance HIS cause (you know somewhat like JJackson etal) and all the Hollywood types that were panting after his production team to be part of his ‘life’.

Of course, the hypocricy will be missed by most - other than those that already know - BUT may be able to shift the train of thought with the ‘on the fence’.

Think it was RLimbaugh that cited(probably didn’t ‘coin’ it)

‘Middle of the Road’ means you are subject to being hit by vehicles from EITHER direction.

Paywall article. Leftists are ruthless in a way that tends to be genocidal. Most people are not going to want to be ruled over by ruthless and homicidal people engaged in a money/asset grab, yet this is we here we are with the Democrats. Now the question is whether this guy is using the language of “getting ruthless” because that is where the party is? If so, maybe they have bigger problems and the very best thing that can happen is a humiliating defeat to clean house.

It would worsen the climate crisis.

The last climate crisis (global cooling, 1980s, or was it global warming, 1990s, or was it global climate change, 2000s) already killed us--so they think Trump is going to make it worse when we are already dead three times?

Those evil previous Republican presidents already turned into zombies three times over!

I suspect it is the “middle of the road” Americans are the dampers that keep us from going too far in either extreme.

Can you imagine what our nation would be like if there were no “middle of the road”? By that I mean everyone has a strong opinion leaning one way or the other. There would be two camps with neither side willing to give up their beliefs.

I suspect that is what allows civil wars to be fought.
