Trump Has Killed Democrats’ Sense of the Possible
The Atlantic ^ | June 10, 2019 | Jemele Hill

Biden’s elevation to front-runner is a testament to how much the president has shaken Democrats’ faith.

To former Vice President Joe Biden’s benefit, electability has become the unofficial buzzword of the 2020 presidential campaign.

Although it’s still early, most polls show Biden as the clear front-runner among Democrats. A CNN/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll was just the latest to give him a solid lead. Among Iowa’s likely Democratic caucus-goers, 24 percent named Biden their first choice for president—a significant lead in a fractured field that has more than 20 candidates.

Biden’s early strength isn’t particularly surprising. He’s an experienced politician. And his service alongside former President Barack Obama has given him a priceless advantage. On Saturday, to celebrate “Best Friends Day,” Biden even tweeted a picture of bracelets entwining his first name and Obama’s—a not-so subtle reminder that the former vice president was a fixture of the good old days.

Nevertheless, Biden’s elevation to front-runner is a testament to how much President Donald Trump has shaken the faith of those who believe the White House could better reflect what America looked like.

Biden has a very low ceiling. Once Iowa and New Hampshire sets up an alternative for the hard left to rally behind, Biden will have to face off against two or three survivors, one of whom will get at least his 24%, which will stay put. There WILL be a minority candidate for the deep south and the northern cities. There WILL be a Sanders or similar for the college towns and California.

If Biden has to fall back on party rules games and the base feels used after the convention, good luck getting turnout against Trump. They might even vote for a 3rd Party to make a statement, figuring Trump wins anyway.

That isn’t an advantage. That’s a curse going into 2020.

All Biden has to do is stop himself from fondling little girls and he wins the Democrat primary

“... the good old days.”

Ah, yes. The days when the President bowed to foreign leaders, apologized for America’s presence in the world, drew lines in the sand, record number of food-stamp recipients, people leaving the workforce, permanent unemployment, etc., etc. Those good old days?

Jemele was tired from ESPN for her repeated vile racist rants against Trump and his supporters.

She is a very bitter and hateful woman.

Why mince words? What they want is the extermination of the white man and the Jew (”the best and most progressive ideas” in her terminology), and even a pause in that ongoing effort is unacceptable to them.

Interesting that this unprofessional ESPN washout landed a staff job at The Atlantic.

Good points. Also, he does have a resume, as a senator and vice president, but that will hurt him in the democrat party, because the democrats are all about being something, rather than accomplishing something. A white man with accomplishments just won’t go anywhere anymore in the party.

This means absolutely nothing. Biden is pretty far left politically. His opponents are extreme left wing radicals. As the radicals are thinned out the support will coalesce not around Biden but some other left wing radical. Biden will not be the nominee. The nominee will be a left wing radical and do not count out Michelle Obama. It could happen.

“What America looks like” apparently isn’t me or any other white person. I looked in the mirror, my reflection is white too. Almost everyone in my community is white too. Apparently we don’t count as Americans anymore.

What a crock.

“According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, the black incarceration rate rose from 1,200 per 100,000 in 1985 to 2,450 per 100,000 in 2000.”

Funny thing happens when society decides to lock up violent felons...

NYC Murders in 2000: 673

Biden will not be the nominee. He’s got more baggage than Willy Loman and he’s as smart as a rubber doorstop. The rest of the clown car is going to politically frag him.

I can’t believe they think he’s electable.

Just play his molesty videos every day. I mean how can anyone vote
For that.

They must realize they can’t win and are just “getting rid”
Of Biden this way.

Joe Biden is the democrat candidate I am cheering for. He turns 78
just after the election, and he loves children. What could go wrong?

What drivel.

By this authors logic, a president can only valid if they are non white or non male..

And only a progressive can unite the country...

Because you know those people who aren’t “progressive” will just come around when the President is.

And let me tell the author this, the panty waste that he is.. I am happy to vote for a (insert your ethnicity of sex of the day here) just not one that believes in the left wing ideology.

For many African Americans, who understandably feel particularly vulnerable in Trump’s administration, prioritizing a defeat of Trump over progress is a means of survival.

Can anyone explain to me what it is exactly that African Americans feel vulnerable about?
