Never-Trumpers should leave the GOP. But they need to think twice before following Comey's lead.

Instead of simply trading in one bad party for a slightly less bad one, frustrated voters need to use this moment to push for credible alternatives.

Last weekend’s Politico Magazine featured an historical retrospective of the rise and fall of major American political parties during the mid-1850s. Written by professor Joshua Zeitz, a historian and one-time Democratic candidate for Congress, the piece urges “Never Trump” Republicans to give up on the GOP, cast aside ideas of independence and join the Democratic Party.

While deeply steeped in historical examples and context, Zeitz presents a false dichotomy to erstwhile Republicans. “Today’s Never Trumpers face a stark choice,” he argues, “passively acquiesce to the further ascent of Trumpism, or switch parties and play a vital part in stopping it.”

Former FBI director James Comey doubled down on this sentiment in a series of tweets this week. Although he once identified as a Republican, Comey has said in the past that the Republican Party had left him behind. Now he's going even further, urging his followers to vote for Democrats if they believe in "this country's values."(continued)

"Yeah Comey was a Republican even though he violated law
to protect HRC even before he knew Trump was the nominee."

There are many "Republicans" in the Republican Party like Comey.
The Republican Party is rife with Democrat Party plants
pretending to be Republican. Their main purpose is
to shift the Republican Party's views and actions to be more
in line with the Democrat Party's political views.

These are those moderate, reach-across-the-aisle
pseudo Republicans like John McCain.
Of course we all realize this now.

Now is the time for Trump to form a new party for his supporters of all parties to flock to. The Uni-Party vs. The Trump Party.

I wouldn't support that right now for several reasons that I can think of. Trump is pulling the party more to the right (conservative), albeit kicking and screaming. If he were in a different Party, there would be a forced divide of support. I am not sure the split would help conservative influence. It would weaken and split votes against Democrats for sure. Having Trump with the GOP, whether they like it or not, gives him leverage he would lose if he changed parties. Power would swing to NeverTrumpers.

Exactly. The mix in congress is getting more Pro-Trump as time goes on as well with many nevertrumps not running or defeated in a primary.

I suggest the name of the new entity should be the Internationalists.

Their number is far greater than most realize.

We absolutely MUST remove the Bush League Republicans from office and replace them with patriots.

We would not have needed Donald Trump to save US if they were on our side.

Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Hyde-Smith, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Capito, Thune, Gaines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans hell bent on making America into North Mexico.

That’s The ruse, they wouldn’t have a party nor any votes. They need to lie and disguise themselves as conservatives for the vote to get power.

some sanity in the schools

There is only one plan that might do that. It is completely removing the Federal Government from the field of Education altogether while disenfranchising public sector unions. All the intentions to quickly improve teachers and teaching are fatuous because we have no teaching colleges any more. Getting the gov out of Education would initiate a slow process because the colleges would have to reform around the desires of local school districts, Out of Education means also getting the FedGove completely out of the business of financing education at any level at all, no government grants or loans for schools or for students no FedGov requirements or standards. Do all that then people can get control of their school districts once again, at least outside of the Metropoli. and in the states vouchers and exemption from school taxes for homeschoolers can be campaigned for and will be campaigned for.

If the Republican Party reverts to its old self after Trump they are done. They had become a big government, tax, borrow and spend globalist Democrat lite party. Real democrat voters knew they were globalist and would never vote for them and real conservatives knew they were not conservative and hadn’t been since Gingrich and had no reason to continue supporting a party that was clearly lying through their teeth to its base voters.

My money says the GOP kicks out every Trump member or appointee after the 2024 election and reverts to Bush Republicanism to continue its death spiral, yeah they are that stupid.

And at last, the Term RINO is starting to mean what it is supposed to mean thanks to Trump. Pre-Trump the folks labeled with that epithet were not at all Republicans-In-Name-Only but rather mainstream Republicans whilst conservatives were being shoved out of the party or into the closet and had shriveled to a tiny minority of office holding Republicans and Republican “leaders.”

The exodus of the Never Trumpers from the GOP is the best thing that can possibly happen in politics today. I really don’t care where they go, but the extent to which they leave the Party is the extent to which I can fully support it.

I believe you’ll see the Dem split into Marxist and a left of center party then merge into a new political party formed from the split of NeverTrumpers RINOs and Trump Supporters will create a Conservative/Libertarian Party (libertarian in social issues, small government and conservative in defense and border issues).
