Ryan: Trump Will Achieve Immigration Reform Despite Opposition

House Speaker Paul Ryan said during a Friday interview Democrats will “have to stomach” the fact that President Donald Trump will advance immigration reform.

Ryan spoke with WISN’s Vicki McKenna at length about immigration and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“They’ll have to stomach the fact that yes, this president will be successful in doing something that hasn’t been done for years, which is advancing some immigration reform, advancing security, advancing enforcement, and advancing a law that fixes the DACA problem so these kids don’t get kicked out,” Ryan said.

“That would be a victory for this president. And that would be, if you’re a politician and you’re partisan and you don’t want to see him be successful, that will be a tough pill to swallow.”

Ryan noted that Democrats who do not support border security are simply playing partisan politics.

“It’s only common sense that we secure our border,” he said. “Having control of your borders should not be partisan. I think it’s a real mistake if because [some Democrats]dislike Donald Trump so much and they don’t want to see him get any success that they’re gonna stop us from actually securing our border. I don’t think that’s a sustainable position.

“The compromise that we will advance will be one that includes securing the border.”

Ryan also addressed Wednesday’s White House meeting between Trump, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi that centered on immigration. Reports said the group came to an agreement on a border security bill that would protect DACA recipients and also excluded a border wall, but Ryan said no deal was made.

The dinner “was a discussion, not a deal,” Ryan said.

No I didn’t forget it. It’s just the way it’s written. I’m not being sarcastic but you have an answer? Does it have to be a constitutional amendment or not?

The subject involves foreign citizens brought illegally to the US by their parents.

It does not involve people born in the US or those who became naturalized US citizens.

“Securing the border” is what they always promise without it working. Increased “surveillance” is not the answer.

Nor is letting the illegals already here stay.
