Every detail was designed to mark Hillary Clintons moment in history from the glass ceiling at Manhattans Javits Center, where her supporters were gathered, to her and hubby Bills suite at The Peninsula hotel, selected so she could personally see Trump Tower, home to the foe she was set to crush. Then came the voter returns. In this exclusive excerpt from their fascinating new book Shattered, political reporters Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes take readers inside Hillary Clintons world on the night that changed her life and the nation forever.
Hillarys communications team decamped to the Javits Center in the Hells Kitchen section of Manhattan, where preparations for her victory party were being made. I'm glad I wasn't at work, because it would have been difficult for me to contain my excitement. I learned from a couple of folks that it looked like someone had died, because there are so many libs, and they were just crushed. One of my friends told me, the day I returned, that the Manager had sent out an e-mail the day after the election, reminding folks that politics wasn't an acceptable topic, because of the possibility of arguments among fellow employees.
