The Jeff Sessions Attack Is a Nothingburger
The Resurgent ^ | March 2, 2017 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 03/02/2017 1:46:40 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

First, let’s get this out of the way. It is not a coincidence that within twenty four hours of Donald Trump giving a well received speech to congress that the New York Times runs a hit job on Jeff Sessions to distract from it, particularly after admitting the Obama Administration has been behind much of this disruption.

Let’s review what happened. During Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing, he had this exchange with Senator Al Franken.

“FRANKEN: OK. CNN has just published a story and I’m telling you this about a news story that’s just been published. I’m not expecting you to know whether or not it’s true or not. But CNN just published a story alleging that the intelligence community provided documents to the president-elect last week that included information that quote, “Russian operatives claimed to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump.” These documents also allegedly say quote, “There was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump’s surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government.”

“Now, again, I’m telling you this as it’s coming out, so you know. But if it’s true, it’s obviously extremely serious and if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do?

“SESSIONS: Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn’t have — did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.

They were clearly talking about the Trump campaign. The Attorney General is making clear he never discussed the campaign with the Russians.

Yes, it is true that Jeff Sessions did have interaction with the Russian ambassador during his time in the Senate. He met with the Russian Ambassador as part of Sessions’ role on the Armed Services Committee. He also spoke at the Heritage Foundation to a group of more than fifty ambassadors and the Russian ambassador was one of those attending.

The very same Democrats upset with Jeff Sessions and accusing him of lying were perfectly fine with Attorney General Loretta Lynch meeting with Bill Clinton during the 2016 campaign.

Consider just how partisan this is by Claire McCaskill, a Democrat Senator from Missouri, taking to Twitter to lie about the situation. McCaskill served with Sessions on the Armed Services Committee and tweeted that she had never met the Russian ambassador as part of her ten years on the committee. But a quick search of her twitter feed proved otherwise.

The Democrats are grasping at straws to distract from the President’s speech. They have Obama campaign operatives and the New York Times helping them do it.

There is no there, there.

I still maintain, however, that there should be an independent investigation of the Russian involvement in the 2016 election, but this attack on Sessions is ridiculous.

It might be a “nothingburger” but the fascist left got him to recuse himself from their witch hunts and by doing so, prevented these witch hunts from having any credibility. Trump needs to tell his people to stand up for and defend themselves. There is a war going on between the U.S. Government and the Kenyan’s Shadow Government. The U.S. Government might want to get with the program.

In the Joseph Stalin era, an accusation was evidence of guilt. The MSM and democrats are just fine with that. They think that is cutting edge jurisprudence.

Now I’m thinking Giuliani would have been a better choice.

Flynn and Sessions were chosen by Trump b/c of their LOYALTY.

Not a currency that has any value in DC.

Katherine Herridge may be on to something with the idea she is formulating. There appears to be collusion going on and its not with Trump’s “surrogates”. This appears to a be a political setup from the get go. Why would Sessions get a call from “out of the blue” from the Russian Ambassador when the FBI is in full investigative mode? A former President should not be colluding to take his successor down. There is something ever so strange about this as well, beyond the he wants to preserve his legacy. To me this is bordering sedition and lesser people have been shot for doing less.

It IS sedition, but when asked, President Trump responded that it was “just politics”.

And Trump should’ve made some type of statement today on this and he said nothing! He Tweets about everything, but something like this he says nothing. I just don’t get it.

Good grief, Sessions did not come across well either. The Dems won today...and that’s a fact.

I disagree. This is a major mistake in my opinion. Now he looks guilty and he so far has recused himself from anything important that comes up. He is damaged goods. He will be gone soon.

I was upset when he recused himself, but when I heard his explanation it makes sense. He had already said he would recuse himself from anything having to do with Trump being elected.

Sounds like he would have recused himself even if the DEMs had not tried to make hay out of nothing. I was disgusted with many REPs ganging up on him.

When you see the complete question and answer session, Franken was trying to catch him off guard with the breaking CNN fake story. Session was definitely answering the question with the thought that Franken was asking the question of Sessions as a Trump surrogate and that’’s what he was answering.

This is so ridiculous. He met the Russian Ambassador in his office with two military officers present. This doesn’t sounds like a good way to hide nefarious dealings with the Russians.

By this standard every single senator, congressman, government official or FBI agent who eve met with the Russia ambassador, et al, should excuse themselves from “the investigation”.

Those very bad and embarrassing things the Dems have done, should be investigated and exposed, except, while I can think of things that they could had done that should be very bad and embarrassing, I doubt these folks would think they did anything bad if they did them and were exposed, because these peoples see themselves as perfect and without fault.
