On the list of surprising visitors calling on president-elect Donald Trump last week, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas ranks right up there with alleged Secretary of State candidate Mitt Romney.
While Romney who called Trump a phony and talked openly about derailing his candidacy during the campaign had an actual job attached to the meeting with his former nemesis on Saturday, Cruzs visit was billed as more of a drop-by.
Its true that after the name-calling between Cruz and Trump (who tagged him Lyin Ted) during the primary campaign; after Trumps derogatory comments about Cruzs wife; after Trumps suggestion that Cruzs father had a role in the JFK assassination; and after Cruz neglected to endorse Trump at the Republican National convention, they did in the end come together. In September, Cruz finally endorsed Trump and campaigned for him....

Cruz destroyed himself.
Silly Cruz holdout, Hillary is not under consideration nor on any list for SoS. And just in case ya missed it, her political life was completely annihilated and destroyed by Trump.☺
I also believe if he doesn’t pick Cruz he will pick the African-American on the list of 20 he proposed.
What trump said about his wife was unforgivable. Put the whole thing in context.
Cruz is also a liar.
I was done with him when he jumped on the band wagon and blamed Trump for the violence outside the rally in Chicago.
If you liked Earl Warren, William Brennan, Harry Blackmun and David Souter, youll love Ted Cruz.
No, Romney is under consideration for SoS and Hillary is a free woman.
He'd make a LOUSY, UNTRUSTWORTHY, Supreme Court Justice; even worse than his pal Roberts!
Btw, wild reckless comments like yours are exactly why Cruz and his supporters got smoked. Learn it.
But for SCOTUS, you should at least know what NBC means. Or at least have the integrity not to twist its plain meaning to serve your overweening ambition to be President. No Cruz.
Cruz is a Bush operative.
How can anybody not see this ?
My wife and I were discussing this. She said that Cruz has the reputation of being the most unliked man in the Senate. So you are a Senator. Do you vote to get rid of him forever, ie. confirm to the Supreme Court, or do you vote to keep him in the Senate with you for the foreseeable future? I think a few Democrats might vote to get rid of him.
Re “ Post #15
*While I like the idea, there is no way Cruz can get 60 votes to be confirmed. While a good majority of the GOPe would vote to confirm just to get ride of him, it would never be enough to get to sixty with all the dems in opposition.*
Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe I read on FR that a simple minority would be needed to confirm.
The ‘nuclear option’ is Harry Reid’s ONLY gift to The Republic, and it was never intended to be a gift! The adults now will start cleaning up the mess the children have left behind. MAGA!
Trump put up a list from which he said he would nominate SCOTUS justices. He attracted many votes with the reception that list received from conservative commentators. The Democrats - who love to declare Republican nominees to SCOTUS out of the mainstream did not say one word of criticism about anyone on that list.It follows that the nomination of someone who is not on that list - including Cruz, whose nomination otherwise would make excellent sense - would be an unforced error which would let the Senate Democrats off the hook.
Oh boy...Tell ya what slick, when Trump picks Romney for SoS, you ping me and post it up in breaking news. ☺
“I think when the president-elect, who’s also the head of your party, tells you before he’s even inaugurated that he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message,, former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday.
wild and reckless comments...
Cruz definitely wouldn’t wilt under the pressure of a confirm hearing, that is definitely a plus. He would fight. Fortunately there is no Teddy Kennedy and a hostile majority this time.
He’s too extra-constitutionally inventive. He renounces his Canadian and Cuban citizenship to become a natural born US citizen 40 years after his birth? No, it’s good that you renounce any other citizenships like was required for all new citizens with the oath of citizenship, but that doesn’t make you natural born.
Cruz is compromised on the anchor baby issue because of this.
Back when they presented the Constitution to the people, it wasn’t exactly a known concept. The colonists bought into it and sacrificed for it to be upheld, God bless them, but it wasn’t the sacrosanct thing that it is now for conservatives. There was actually a level above it that the people knew well called “oath” and they wouldn’t constitutionalize these oaths because it would diminish it. Nowadays the oaths are ignored because they aren’t in the Constitution.
Cruz can fight and he can intellectually dominate the court for decades.
He could be Chief Justice in about 10-15 years and stay there for a total of 30-40.
Cruz is the best pick for this job.
I know he can be a weasel and liar, but he’s the best we’ve got for this spot.
I’m also assuming Trump will get one possibly two more choices during his Presidency.
