Iowa Republicans worked Saturday to salve the bruises of bare-knuckle fight for the party's presidential nomination by rallying around a unifying cry of "Never Hillary" heading to the 2016 political battlefield.
The 1,555 delegates who attended the GOP state convention cheered their elected officials and selected party members to represent them at the July national convention who generally backed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz but now plan to support Donald Trump as the party's presumptive presidential standard-bearer in the 2016 election.
"It's going to take us all working together as a united party in November so Hillary Clinton never sets a foot in the White House," Gov. Terry Branstad told the delegates from Iowa's 99 counties who packed the Varied Industries building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
"We need to support Donald Trump and his choice for vice president because he will make America great again," added the six-term governor...

I am very happy that they have decided to back Trump...

Keep in mind what the rules say and not what’s implied by the posted snip.
....Iowa GOP rules stipulate the 30 delegates at the national convention must vote based on the
outcome of the Iowa caucuses, meaning that Cruz will get eight delegate votes at the Feb. 1 Iowa
winner, Trump and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio each will get seven votes, fourth-place finisher Ben
Carson will get three and Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul and John Kasich
each will get one delegate vote from Iowa....
Like I said, “I’m glad they decided to back Trump”....
It warms my heart.
Good news. Thank you for posting the story.
HUH?
Great story. Thanks. Now, if only Cruz would take to the floor of the Convention and lead the chorus to make Donald Trump’s nomination unanimous by acclamation!!!
As a former democrat who was devastated in 1984 when my first choice Gary Hart actually beat Mondale by number of primaries won and popular votes collected, I still painfully remember his voice asking the delegates to do likewise for his arch rival
Thanks to the Iowa GOP for taking this stance. It is critical to keep the ultimate goal in mind: WIN THE WHITE HOUSE IN NOVEMBER!!
That’s quite alright, at this point Trump will have many more first ballot votes than needed....1,400 or so. They’ll have an acclimation vote after roll call. So he will win by acclimation...with the states he didn’t win outright falling in with him. That’s what is important about this. Let the Democrats have riots.
I now think Trump will pick up enough delegates that he will be immune even if every one of the un-pledged delegates were to shun him - should make it easier for them to back him if he's inevitable no matter how they vote.
