AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - In finishing the Republican presidential race well ahead of Donald Trump's other rivals, Ted Cruz is likely to be a leading GOP voice for the foreseeable future.
Less clear is whether Cruz harnesses that clout to help Trump win the White House or whether he simply solidifies his place as a champion of conservative causes, Senate troublemaker and star of Texas politics.
Cruz is being talked about as a leader of the national conservative movement, and he has an unmatched organization in Texas....

Um no....not even in dreamland
The Cruz bashing continues even though he’s folded. I guess its hard to get out of attack mode. Trump will need to win this in November and attacking Cruz is not going to help.

That’s right the place that routinely sent Ron Paul to the house
And how much clout did Ron achieve every time he ran and came ‘close’?
You didn’t see the Cruz Dewherst debate did you? The election was a runoff. In other words, good ole Sarah didn’t win him the election outright, he won it on his own merits. If Sarah had been the one who won it for him, there would not have been a need for a runoff.

I don't trust McConnell to support a Trump agenda, so we need a true conservative coalition to challenge McConnell at every turn.
Cruz can lead and grow that coalition, and maybe some day even challenge McConnell for Majority Leader.

The onus is also on that former governor and president to be open to supporting a united party. Your post says that Trump is responsible, but doesn't reckon with the intransigence of the opposing factions.
In 2012, Romney had the task of unifying, explicitly with the imprimatur of the establishment, and he failed. He failed because the establishment has stopped listening to the voters.
Now, the voters have stood up to the establishment, and the establishment needs to be open to listening to the raised voices from across the party's spectrum. Trump is responsible for taking a reasonable line in trying to work with the party, but the party is also responsible for their own tantrums.
There is no defense for what he did to Rafael Cruz or to the Cruise family in general and it requires Trump to begin the process of making amends to effect a reconciliation.
Trump cannot insult his way to victory in November.
I don’t personally know anyone, here in TX, who likes cRuz. They feel lied to and cheaTED for ever supporting him.
Work associates, friends, family.....are all in for Trump.
What’s really odd, is that I see Trump bumper stickers and signs, all along the Texas highways that I travel. I NEVER see cRuz stickers/signs. Even before the TX primary.
He’ll be lucky to be elected dog catcher - of Calgary.
The FOIA documentation on Papa Cruz does not match his fairy tale. That is very clear. His Cuban tale is grossly embellished and contradictory at best.
Cruz went ballistic when some of the information found its way to the MSM.
Cruz was in this race until the convention where he was conspiring with Cruz delegates on the RNC Convention Rules Committee to redefine the rules. His lawyers were working in tandem with that group to decertify delegates and unseat entire delegations, as well.
The revelation of Rafael B. Cruz’s background was the impetus for Cruz’s abrupt departure. It was a shot across the bow. Ted had to withdraw.
Texas, is not a battleground state. Trump will win Texas w/out a problem. Thank God, Bush’s NWO does not control the Texas vote. Bush will have to steal the election for Hillary, if he plans to defeat Donald Trump in Texas.
the despicable campaign conducted by Trump
Yet, you defend Lyin Ted in your same post.
Unreal. The entire country knows who ran the ‘despicable campaign’. And, it wasn’t Trump.
A year ago the Cruz Contingent here told us he was “wildly popular” in Texas.
The facts were that Ted got a lower percentage of the Texas vote in Nov 2012 than Mediocre Mitt Romney, a very uninspiring candidate.
Every time I mentioned that, they called me a moron.

Texas? Cruz didn’t get out of the low 40s in the Republican Texas primary, right? Are you trying to say he is very popular there?
“You dont live in Texas, do you son?”
I live in Texas...son.
Ted will never again get my vote for any office.
Absolute rubbish so typical of the Trump campaign. There's not a scrap of evidence to justify that charge and it is as despicable as the rest of the Trump campaign.
Neither Donald Trump nor his supporters can insult their way to victory in November.
LOLOL.
Bless your heart.
Cruz isn’t liked anywhere except for closed caucuses with GOP establishment types. 43% in Texas was a pitiful showing and him only getting half the delegates of Trump qualifies as a serious ass kicking.
