Cruz, Kasich working California, but Trump hasn't set up shop here

While Ted Cruz and John Kasich are gearing up their California campaigns, there is little indication that Donald Trump has given the state much thought – despite the June 7 primary’s potential to make or break his nomination.

The billionaire front-runner canceled a rally planned for Friday for his golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, instead spending the time campaigning in New York for its April 19 primary. Cruz was in Orange County for a March 31 fundraiser and will be back Monday for an 11:30 a.m. rally at the Hotel Irvine.

Both Cruz and Kasich have been booked to speak at the California Republican Party’s convention at the end of the month, but there has been no word from Trump about the event.

“The theme of his campaign seems to be ‘Worry about today and tomorrow,’” said Lori Cox Han, a Chapman University political scientist. “And that could hurt him.”(continued)

I’m from Orange County, CA.... and it seems to be all Trump. Elderly, professional, Hispanics, young...even my nephew that attends Berkley is all Trump. I have never seen anything like it. Definitely appears to be a movement.

And neither did one of Trump’s staffers who was a registered democrat and failed to change his registration in time.

If you are talking about two of Trump’s kids not being able to vote for daddy because they failed to change their registration in time, it’s all over the news.

I guess they take after daddy in not knowing or following the rules.

I suppose they will whine now that it isn’t fair ... someone should have taken them to register.

Trump thought it would be easy.

He benefited mightily by the plethora of candidates in the early primaries. He got a third or so of the vote while the not trump voters were divided.

It was greatly to his advantage. But the minute he fails to win a primary because his team is in shambles and he’s not on top of things, the whining can be heard on Mars.

Maybe but you might hold off on buying the champagne.

Many sources say Trump is overpolling.

He won’t be able to get the democrat or independent vote, so who really knows.

Trump has already hired people in Sacramento and I think statewide in CA.

Trump has already hired people in Sacramento and I think statewide in CA.

He hired someone statewide 2 or 3 days ago. The slates of delegates have to be submitted 3 weeks from tomorrow, and he has to find 338 delegates/alternates in that time. If that was statewide, it wouldn't be a problem, but they will have to go district by district to find 3 delegates and three alternates that can afford the $900 participation fee (that the campaign cannot pay for them) as well as the $3000-6000 cost to attend the convention, and are registered Republicans living in the district. In a lot of these districts, there may one be a couple of thousand Republicans living there, and a lot of the districts are lower income (South Central LA, central valley, etc.) So it will be a challenge for them.

I think this guy Manafort has a good handle on it. Trump is well on his way to 1237 which is really the only thing that counts. Speculating about second ballot voting is fun but not going to happen. I believe Trump will take CA.

I believe Trump will take CA.

I live here, and this is not a state you can win with Twitter and rallies. It is 54 separate elections, and for most of the state, you really have to know where the Republicans are and how to connect with them. For example, the latest Field poll shows Trump doing really well in Orange County and San Diego county - lots of GOP voters of the Schwarzenegger/Wilson variety, but only a handful of congressional districts. On the other hand, Cruz is leading by quite a bit in LA county - most district there only have a few thousand voters, but there are 15-20 congressional districts in the area. So if Trump wins big in the areas with lots of moderate GOP voters but few delegates, while Cruz wins big in the area with few GOP voters but lots of delegates - who has the advantage?

I guess we will find out soon. After Cruz sustains a drubbing in the next 5 or so primaries he is going to be mathematically out of the race. I wonder how many of the good GOP voters in CA are going to wasn’t to waste their vote? Most people like to vote for the winner.
