I have been struggling to decide who to vote for president. This field that was hyped as the "most talented in a generation" has turned out to be a field full of mediocrities. Standing atop the field until last night was a vulgar carnival barker and reality TV star. Instead of a debate on ideas, we have mindless sloganeering and empty words.
Donald Trump absolutely cannot be the Republican nominee. Trump is not a conservative, he has not fought with conservatives, and he has actively aided and funded the enemies of conservatives. It's more than that though. To nominate Trump would be to reward a demagogue for his demagoguery. We're not going to rehash his idiotic proposals and vulgar remarks, but someone like that should not be representing conservatives and a major political party.
Now the task at hand is to support someone who actually can defeat Trump. I hesitated to align behind a presidential candidate and I even gave strong thought to not voting in the Louisiana primary on March 5th. But I can't sit on the sidelines and let Trump get the nomination unopposed....

Wise words. I agree.
Conservatism is a generality that can mean anything. Total bs when not precise and like I said a total failure for the last 10 years.
Yes, it’s great to have men who can do things. He is also a man of low character and his mouth is an embarrassment.
Sorry, I'm not supporting a liberal Presidential candidate simply because he is rich. And I definitely am not supporting a candidate who reguularly struggles to complete a sentence.
Actually, I do.
Hypothetical: if Cruz wins the nomination;
would you vote for Cruz or sit the election out?
As a Cruz supporter, I would vote for Trump or Cruz
It’s New Hampshire.
Enjoy the victory :)
Unlike Trumphooligans who are able to spew insults without thinking, I have to work at coming up with school yard taunts. I don’t have the Trumpkins penchant for vacuous insinuation. So sue me.
This is why the south seceded.
I think this is true. Lincoln, elected with out a single Southern State, was regarded as someone who could not be seen as being fair or objective to the concerns of the Southern States.
I think the election left them feeling as if they didn't have any representation in Washington, Kinda like Barack leaves us feeling.
Two Liberal Racially Obsessed Lawyers from Illinois using executive orders to push their agendas.... Yeah, that would be very worrisome if you are on the receiving end of it.
me too.
I predict Trump is going to be looking at waterboarding and other things when it comes to enemies foreign AND domestic.
He’s already put the press on notice that he will go all Politkovskaya on them
It’s a great day in America
he woulds lose too.
I’m good with either Trump or Cruz. It’s great to see two guys I can support winning Iowa and New Hampshire - 2008 and 2012 were complete disasters.
You make some good points, but the truth is, the fact that the federal government has become the largest purchaser of prescription drugs is the main source of the problem. But it is what it is. We as a nation decided a while ago that we wanted the federal government in that role. I would like to see us get away from that at some point in the future. But the fact is, medicaire is a current reality which millions of people currently rely on, and which will bankrupt us if we don’t get it under control.
The problem is a result of the government getting involved in providing health insurance in the first place. But whether you like it or not, the federal government is a customer - the largest one - of prescription drugs. What Trump is proposing, is to use the leverage that the government has as the largest customer, to demand better pricing. In the long term, I’d like to see medicare privatized. In the short term, we need to get costs under control before they bankrupt us.

Fine with me.

I appreciate it. I think he's done a good job of it.
My vote goes to Cruz because he is a consistent constitutional conservative. Even if I were to accept the premise that he is pro-amnesty -And He Isn't- it would be up to congress and not a wave of his pen.
Cruz didn't discover conservatism in the last two years. He's been walking the walk for a long time.
You're not gonna believe this one.
This is a valid point, and it is one reason why I am not completely sour on Trump. There are some things that very badly need doing, and that I believe he will do.
But I also believe Ted Cruz will do these things as well.
If I cannot get Cruz, then I will accept Trump, because those things that need to be done will also get done with Trump.
I have spent almost 40 years in and around the Federal Government. We are probably too far gone to come back, but only someone with Donald Trump's life experience has half a chance against the entrenched bureaucracy.
Maybe, but I remember when we thought Arnold Schwarzenegger would hang tough too. Then he caved like a cheap suit.
I think underlying philosophy matters. I think Cruz has pondered why he believes what he believes, and I think he will do what he will do for good principled reasons.
I am not convinced that this is also true of Trump. Yes, he may do some things that badly need doing, but if he is only doing them because they are popular, what is he going to do when he needs to do something that is in fact unpopular? (Like Cut programs or Departments.)
Will he hang tough? I don't know.
