The Big Conversation
The pivotal and increasingly more difficult to predict GOP presidential primary in New Hampshire will happen tomorrow. As the Tribune's Abby Livingston reports, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is campaigning with an urgency similar to his efforts in Iowa.
"Cruz already has an Iowa victory under his belt, and will soon turn to Republican supporters better aligned with his message in Southern states in the coming weeks," Livingston wrote. "But he is campaigning here in New Hampshire as if there is not tomorrow: come Tuesday, he will have made at least 17 stops in a week's time."
Donald Trump has run strongly in the Granite State for a while now, and Livingston reports that the real race here is for second place with the four "establishment" candidates -- former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio -- "desperately need(ing) a strong finish here."
Livingston adds, "Cruz could displace them all and take the second-place red ribbon, or his appeal to base voters could prove tone deaf here."
One of the wild cards at play heading into the final couple of days in New Hampshire: assessing exactly how much damage Rubio did to himself at Saturday's GOP presidential debate....

Bristol, is that you?
Meaningless, the difference between 2nd and fifth place is a couple of points. 0 electoral votes.
I choose Cruz before he announced.......and I also determined that during Ted’s campaign I would have no expectations about what might be said or misconstrued, having worked in campaigns myself. Rather give him loads of wiggle room to make the necessary adjustments along the way.....he must appeal to all voters without compromising his positions on the issues...and that can be tricky when the press and other candidates field their stuff.
I learned not NOT vote according to how someone does in a campaign race.....rather I search carefully beforehand as we all know the media gets it’s nose snotty if there’s not a story, real or fabricated, to run with for viewer ratings.
Cruz was accustomed to the media ignoring him when he first got to Washington, when both sides of the aisle saw clearly Cruz was not going to play in their game....and if there was news it was always unfavorable to Cruz as the politicians pulled used their leverage with the media cards they had in their hands.
He had a great win in Iowa but the media ran Trump as if he was the winner...and this carson story , with Rubio’s staff help, to attempt to take Cruz down.....But it takes more than that to really rattle Ted Cruz because he understands fully how things work.....and why is ground game was so designed to operate........it’s really a stunning ground game if you’ve been watching it.....there’s a reason it’s said Cruz Cruz’s right along. He really doesn’t get shaken....and that’s a major trait I like to see in a President.
I’m very comfortable supporting Cruz regardless of what happens in the race.......he’s solid as a rock and we all know the foundation he stands on....which is where my trust remains.
He’s graciously apologizing for hurting special little snowflake Gentle Ben Carson’s feelings.
Nice effort to engage, but no thanks.
I respect your position. Good luck and may the best man win.
Ben Carson is a man of significant accomplishment.
That is the mud slinging tactic you have harassed multiple posters with, hypocrite.
Point out my hypocrisy please.
I would like to see if Trump has a chance of coming in second. Polls always tighten up on the day of the vote. Trump might win with 23 to 26% of the vote. All the others are fighting for second like crazy.
Thank you....I pray the man who wins will indeed not be up to man alone to pick.....that we chose the man God finally gave us.
Appeal to authority logical fallacy coupled with berating a poster for disagreeing with your cited authority.
Failing to bring forward any positives for your candidate while badmouthing others.
Objecting when you are berated using the same tactics you use.
You, and other Trump supporters like you, damage your candidate by your actions in the same manner it is often claimed about Cruz supporters.
But where are the specific examples of hypocrisy? Please copy and paste. Thanks in advance.
Onward and upward!
I see.
Now you believe you can set the terms of the debate.
If you read my last post slowly, you may figure out what the words mean. If not, ask someone to read it to you.
It’s always amusing when posters get indignant when called out on their behavior.
Do you believe arrogance is an attribute?
No I’m not babbling you are dreaming.
Look once you are reduced to following Carson around begging for another chance to apologize its going down the tubes.
I believe arrogance is the perfect return gift for those that display it.
It is, btw, an attribute.
Generally, I try to honestly debate. But I thought a dose of the tactics you were displaying on this thread might be a more effective teaching tool.
