Why Trump Was Smart to Skip the Next Debate
Political Wire ^

Posted on 01/26/2016 7:31:15 PM PST by TigerClaws

Donald Trump’s decision to skip the next debate marked yet another unexpected twist in his presidential campaign but probably a very smart political decision.

Trump’s conflict with Fox News started after Trump began bashing moderator Megyn Kelly, whose questions in the first GOP debate he said were unfair. But it quickly turned into the entire network mocking him.

When Trump polled his Twitter followers about whether he should participate, Fox News put out a news release mocking him:

“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.”

That jab was too much and Trump followed his own negotiating advice from The Art of the Deal and walked away from the table. After spending most of his campaign arguing that the world laughs at President Obama because he is a terrible negotiator, it was really Trump’s only move.

Ask yourself “How badly does Trump need to appear in this debate?” and then “How badly does Fox News need Trump to appear in this debate?” The answer is obvious.

Trump not only understands the Rule of Holes, but the corrolary: “When you have a huge lead, don’t do things that put it at risk”.

Once again, he plays chess while everyone else plays tiddly-winks.

Win or lose, due to this decision, I am exceptionally happy to finally see anyone, ANYONE, from the Republicans, finally stand up to the absurd requirements placed upon them and tell them “NO”.

Where does it state in our Constitution that our political candidates must submit themselves to the gauntlet that the MSM has prepared for them?

I would heap scorn upon any candidate who decided to “skip” such a forum if all were equally held to the same standards across the political spectrum, but that has not been the case for several decades now, and I and I am impressed that finally one candidate has put his foot down and told the MSM that they can “take a hike” with their “agenda”.

Whether or not this costs Mr. Trump the Republican nomination or even the general election, I do not care. I am Particularly impressed that he has “broken the mold” and is no longer following the script of the unelected and self anointed ‘King Makers’.

Also Rubio and Cruz will try to knock the other out.
As they will have more time to do so.

In the great and ancient USENET flame wars, the understanding was, that, the person who posted the next-to-last reply wins.

Tactical slam.

Walk away and leave the adversary sputtering to himself.

And yes, it works.

:)

It also sets the stage for the general election. Trump has shown he will walk away if necessary.

Hillary getting softballs and set ups. Our candidates at a ‘friendly Fox News’ get bashed.

Trump is all about winning. Perhaps this is the right call.

I’m no Trump supporter, but I’m with you on this one. It’s highly unprofessional of Fox News management to get into a pissing contest with a candidate. I’ll wager that the “moderators” encourage the remaining participants to gang up on Trump. How they respond and how they deal with the defender of Islam that they’re bringing in to ambush the candidates will be pretty telling.

You are exactly right .. very well stated ... hey still don’t get it , and that is the beauty of it ... by the time anyone realizes how Trump is winning , he will have already won ... love it

Yuck, they included a Muslim at the debate? That is low, even though I'm no gan of Trump.

Oh yeah they have some YouTube Muslim activist all lined up to cry about Triump's "hate" and "bigotry", and an illegal alien there to cry about being deported.

But somehow, unfathomably, there is no one there from the Remembrance Project to question Rubio on his amnesty stance.

WE WOULDN'T WANT THAT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

I bet he shows up. He’s too much of a showboat not to.

What's even better than Trump flipping fox the finger is the thought of poor ted trying to make nice with the mooselimb inquisitors without looking weak or nasty.

In 1986 President Ronald Reagn walked away from a bad deal and won the Cold War as a result.

Hopefully, this means he'll turn down the "impartial" NPR's Gwen Ifill for the general election.

I cannot see the future, and I do not claim to be able to see how this eventually plays out, but I am excited to see that the “status quo” is being challenged and that perhaps someone with a set of Neutronium Balls is finally taking the MSM (the liberal establishment) to task.

Finally!

I doubt this will work in his favor, but I see it as a calculated gambit that has the potential for a massive payoff over the long haul.

The Fox has tried to hump Trump.

Trump has locked the Fox out of the hen house.
