Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) says he is in favor of preventing people on the âno-fly listâ from being able to purchase guns.
âWell, on the no-fly list, we probably could keep them from getting guns and ought to ban them,â Kasich said on CNNâs âState of the Unionâ on Sunday.
The Republican presidential hopeful said it is âcommon senseâ to prevent people on terror watchlists from obtaining weapons, but that a balance must be struck in order to ensure suspects under review are not tipped off.
âWe want to make sure that we can exploit all the information that we possibly can get. So if all of a sudden you tell everybody whoâs on the watch list that you canât do this or that, then guess what happens?â he said. âThen we lose our ability to track, we lose our ability to gather information, so I think we have to be careful.â
"Of course it makes common sense to say that if youâre on a terror watchlist that you shouldnât be able to go out and get a gun, although you will be able to get it illegally, but what we have to deal with is the fact that we donât want to tip somebody off that theyâre under review and that we could be gathering critical information to disrupt the plot,â he added.
Republicans in the Senate prevented Democrats from approving a measure last week that would have barred people on federal terror watchlists from buying firearms.
Conservatives fear such a measure would deny people of their Second Amendment rights without due process.
Kasich now offically makes me.sick. He is without a doubt the worst of the bunch. Not even a.close second.
Kasich says to keep guns away from those secretly ACCUSED??
Do the words “due process” mean anything to you, asshole?
Yup.
Sadly, Trump left the door open for the same on Face The Nation today, though.
Ah, but I didn’t start with the language of the leftists.
I started with the 10th Amendment.
Ironically, the whole federal gun law issue is more of a 10th Amendment issue than a 2nd. The statists want us all to argue about the extent of regulation constitutes a violation of the 2nd rather than that ANY federal gun laws, save perchance those requiring gun ownership and proficiency by all Citizens eligible for Militia service, is a violation of the 10th Amendment.
They want to discuss how much is too much knowing that people aren’t like sensible frogs who will jump out of proverbial frying pans, no, people can get used to anything so long as it is introduced gradually enough.
That’s how, I’m sure you’ll agree, socialism has been advanced in the States. It started long ago with creeps like Wilson who while still in academia opined that the problem with the Constitution was that it didn’t say what government should do for people (when the actual brilliance of it is that it let the federal do almost nothing) and has continued till we actually tolerate genuinely vile people that more sane Americans in past years would have (had they known) justly shunned and harried from public life, positions of Trust, education, and even some forms of employment for their leftist ideology.
Point taken, I don't know why I used the word start in the context I was addressing your post.
What I mean is we need to stop using the language of the left, period.
Again, it was not directed at you personally but rather in general.
Ironically, the whole federal gun law issue is more of a 10th Amendment issue than a 2nd
That I disagree with but will have to discuss later as I need to address a few chores first.
But quickly, the 10 strictly prohibits the States from infringing any rights stated as declatory and restrictive in the BOR.
Unless and until the government establishes clear standards, an appealable process, and some method of publication, update, and review for the no-fly list this is a horrid idea.
A secret list with no standard for review and appeal is a recipe for government abuse of power. Expanding that abuse to encroach upon a clearly delineated right is ludicrous.
How about we start with making exceptions to the no-fly list?
I call it the 1 flight list...
If you are a foreign national on the no-fly list, you get one flight: home.
When the libs agree this double secret triple voodoo list is prima face cause for deportation, AND that any imam on the list can be prevented from speaking at his local ‘community center’ I will consider a compromise on the background check applicability of the list.
This sounds good, until you start digging into how someone gets on, and subsequently can get off, this all powerful and infallible list.
Kasich who voted for the assault weapons ban in 1994. Loser.
The problem I see is this, there is no Due Process and anyone’s name can be on that list.
The Left will use that kind of loophole to put anyone on that list they dislike.
We have to watch both sides that say we must give up all our freedoms for the Illusion and Lie that the Government can Protect and Save us. They can’t.
There are probably hundreds of people on the list that don’t even know it. Besides, a Federal Judge has ruled its’ methods as unconstitutional.
Kasich: Keep guns from those on no-fly list
_________
Dream-on ....dreamer/IDIOT. They have other means of destroying us! This IS NOT ABOUT GUNS!!!! It’s about a religion that hates us....period.
Shouldn't that end the discussion, right there?
“Is the no-fly list and the terror watch list the same thing?”
No, the no-fly list is a subset of the watch list.
The FBI is automatically informed if people on the watch list buy a gun from a federal dealer.
That is something that is normally left out of the discussion.
Prison for government officials who wrongly put non-islamic Americans on the terrorist list.
Uh, Mr. Crackhead, sir? You DO realize there’s no die process requirement for the no-fly list, yes? They can get away with that because they claim (dubiously, IMO) that flying is a privilege, not a right. The hurdle to limit rights is much higher, as it should be.
I am on the no-fly list, as Is every one else with the similar name.
The second amendment and the rest of the Bill of Rights is not, “unless the government says otherwise.”
Right. There is no ‘due process’ to get on the no fly list and no ‘due process’ to get off of it.
A liberal Democrat’s wet dream is to link it to gun control to take away an American’s 2d Amendment rights.
So ban those from getting guns because they are on a secret list whose veracity cannot be challenged.
This man is an idiot.
