Ted Cruz says Donald Trump can't win, nation awaits inevitable angry response
The Examiner ^ | October 9, 2015 | Mark Whittington, Houston Ted Cruz Examiner

Posted on 10/09/2015 8:19:48 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Politico noted on Friday that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a candidate for president of the United States, has said the first thing that has come out of his mouth that could be construed to be remotely negative about Donald Trump. Cruz stated in an interview that will run Sunday on WABC that he does not think that Trump will win the Republican nomination and that most of the mercurial businessman’s voters will gravitate to the man from Texas. The statement was so mild and obvious that if said about anyone else it would not be news. Indeed, a Trump spokesperson simply begged to disagree on Twitter.

But, as Hot Air reminded us, Donald Trump is no ordinary candidate. He has both a volcanic temper and a thin skin that has manifested many times in incendiary attacks on opponents and members of the media. The nation is now hushed, awaiting the explosion. Will Trump call Cruz a “loser” and will he go full bore birther on him?

To be sure, Cruz sweetened his observation with praise....

Take your own advice.

I have been around the block many times and I am behind Trump.

I am sure the people that you say “see through” Trump can also see through Carson, Bush and Fiorina.

If not, they are dumber than me.

If you honestly think that Cruz, who voted for TPA and the Corker bill, and is now, very deceptively, lambasting both, is better....

I do and by a country mile.

Cruz is the constitutional conservative that Free Republic has been hoping for since its inception. Its a disappointment to me that expediency and celebrity has eclipsed principle. While the Donald was a big liberal, Cruz was fighting for your liberty. Cruz is not a campaign conservative, we know what he believes and we know he has believed passionately for a long time. Some refuse to see it because Trump is rich, rich I tell you - and famous. He give the gina tingles - did you know he is rich!

“Cruz is the constitutional conservative that Free Republic has been hoping for since its inception.”

Well, according to Mark Levin, Cruz, your Incarnation of the United States Constitution, helped knock a hole in it with the Corker bill. The Corker bill upended and reversed the treaty protection of the Constitution. While every bill requires 51 votes to pass, the Corker bill required a 67 vote disapproval to kill it (not to pass it, but to kill it).

I am a Constitutional conservative, and that was NOT what I had been waiting for. Not to mention the little item about granting atomic weapons to a terrorist state.

You can’t keep up with the truth of what he has said, nor of why he voted as he did.

You’re just trolling with an empty head.

I don’t believe Cruz will be as able to make the changes necessary to keep America from going over the edge as Trump will. “Constitutional Conservative” doesn’t represent the whole of what is needed. Plus it’s an empty political phrase unless defined. The American people are sick and tired of being circumlocuted by empty meaningless political phrases which is why the are swamping Trump rallies instead of Cruz rallies.

The Corker vote and the tactics behind have been explained on FR many times before, you either missed it or are ignoring it. If you need links, I’ll be happy to provide them, but I suspect that you would rather spread libelous innuendo.

I guess we are doomed to elect humans to office, and all humans have frailties, foibles and histories we may not like.

I’m looking at this election as a last chance to avoid the fundamental transformation of this country from a representative republic to an oligarchy of big government perpetuated by big donors.

For me, it’s a question of who is best positioned and inclined to stop it. Right now, for me, that’s Trump.

Cruz is a close second, but his reliance on big donors and his votes on a couple of key issues are troublesome. If he really is set to take on the current Uniparty power structure, I fear that his Canadian birth will be enough for the Supreme Court to nullify him.

For those that don’t think the court would interpret the law in such a way as to do this, I guess that if recent decisions the court has made won’t give you pause, nothing will.

I heard him condemn the Corker bill in an interview with Mark Levin. He never owned up to voting for it or explaining it away.

I have read the supposed tactics behind the vote; they do not hold water, are laughable.

“You’re just trolling with an empty head.”

“Empty head” in Cruz-bot jargon must means mentioning Cruz’s voting record.

“Throw your panties on the stage with the rest!”

No, the “rest” are obviously you Cruz supporters, which I am not.

“I didn’t say Trump isn’t intelligent; I said Cruz is much more so.”

And I responded that Trump is intelligent in a different way than Cruz. That response was totally germane to the conversation, not a straw man. There are different ways to fight. Nobody doubts Cruz’s intelligence as a legal scholar. Trump wouldn’t need to match his intelligence in this area in order to hold his own with Cruz. He would rely on his own strengths, not Cruz’s. Cruz is a solid guy, but no candidate is perfect, and Trump would be more than capable of defending himself and attacking Cruz’s weak spots.

Aside from TPP, and a somewhat weak position on immigration, Cruz doesn’t have too many weak spots, but his biggest weakness is the same as all the other candidates. He’s not Trump. Trump’s greatest strength and that which puts him head and shoulders above all the others IMO, is that he knows how to get things done. Cruz may believe all the right things, but that doesn’t mean he would be able to accomplish as much as Trump as President. None of the candidates have Trump’s managerial ability or practical understanding of how to get things done, so it would be enough for Trump to point this out with regards to Cruz.

I disagree with your assessment of Trump’s intelligence not being unique. When I say he has a unique intelligence, my point is not that he would score higher than this person or that person on an I.Q. test. Trump is Obviously not stupid, but my point is that he has intelligence in a unique combination of areas.

He never owned up to voting for it ...

Sorry I have to throw a flag on the field for BS

Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill

The bill passed 99-1 so Ted's vote would not have changed the outcome. DO you really believe that he wanted the Iran Deal? I suspect your goal is to defame Cruz in hopes that Trump will win, cuz he is really rich you know!

“Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal.”

That, sir, is a bald-faced lie. There will be no Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran bill, because that happened BEFORE the freakin’ vote. You DO NOT pass a bill and then debate on it. It is over. That is so damn pathetic. I did not know he came out with that. And he still has credibility????

It may soon be the time for Cruz to move forward. Trump has taken a lot of the arrows that would have been aimed at Cruz. This is all working out very well, I think.
