As he prepares to take the stage Wednesday for the second televised Republican presidential debate, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is making it clear he wants to use the airtime to go after Donald Trump again.
I think he deserves both barrels, Paul said in a Tuesday afternoon interview with The Daily Caller. I want to make sure everyone in the whole country knows hes a fake conservative.
Paul went on offense against Trump harder than any other Republican in last months Fox News debate. But despite the attacks, Trumps numbers have only gotten stronger while Pauls have faded.
Previewing his argument against the New York businessman at Wednesdays Reagan Library debate in California, Paul said voters just need more time to learn about Trumps past positions: I think ultimately when voters fully grasp who he is and what he supports, I think theyll run away with their hair on fire.
The message hasnt penetrated yet that Donald Trump isnt one of us, Paul argued. Hes barely a Republican. Hes been a Democrat. Hes been a huge supporter of Harry Reid, Charlie Rangel.
Paul has been criticizing Trump for acknowledging that he gives money to politicians because he wants to call in favors down the road.
Hes the consummate insider, Paul said, buying and selling politicians.
Even though he has seen his numbers go down, the senator says he is comfortable with where we are because we have our own niche thats carved out quite well.
Im the only one on the stage who has actually put forward a budget that balances, Paul said. Im the only one really on the stage who stood up in defense of privacy, through the Fourth Amendment right to be left alone. Im the only one on the stage who says, you know what, Im not for sending our sons and daughters back to war in Iraq.'
Asked about Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina two other Republicans who, like Trump, have never served in office and have seen their poll numbers rise recently Paul declined to criticize his rivals.
I dont know enough about either one of them to know what their positions are on policies, he said. But I think they do represent a significant frustration of everybody with Washington. And Im part of that. I ran for office because I was unhappy with whats going on in Washington and continue to be.
Part of Pauls challenge now is to convince voters that hes a true outsider. His campaign slogan is defeat the Washington machine.
I continue to be one of the leading proponents for term limits, he said. Because I think the only way to get our government back is actually to have more changeover in office.
The campaign, he said, is also actively working to remind people hes been an eye surgeon for 20 years and has spent most of his life outside politics.
It takes a while, he said. Probably 1 in 100 voters knows Im a physician so we do want my entire biography to be out there.
Hes the consummate insider, Paul said, buying and selling politicians.
AKA...johns, prostitutes and pimps.
At least one DC trough-feeder finally admits it, despite the stunning lack of introspection and awareness of his hypocrisy.
Dear Rand, my contribution to your campaign is going to be a MIRROR.
Hear, hear! Perfectly said. May I steal that for a tagline?
Wow! Threatening someones life?
Trump basically knew what type of women these politicians were.
All he did was negotiate the price for the exchange.
Trump CAN be outgunned.
But it will take a brash, I-don’t-care, rock-ribbed conservative stand by a candidate to do it. Out of all of those in the running, only Cruz has the conservative cred to pull it off - and even he has a couple of black marks in some folks’ copy books.
Rand Paul (or anyone else) trying to outgun Trump by tearing him down will not work, except in the already convinced media and candidate pools.
And, no, I am not an outspoken Trump supporter. Far from it.
Ha! Good one.
You wanna fight Trump?
You can’t even fight sleep...
Putz...
Yup yup
“When it’s time to shoot, just shoot, don’t talk” (paraphrase)
Sure, I’d be honored.
The GOP is determined to force another amnesty candidate on us. Trump is far from perfect, but at least he is on the side of the citizens and the rule of law. That is more than can be said of most of the rest
I do believe that Trump needs to be exposed as the shallow, unqualified, egotistical liberal that he is, and if Paul can help perform that needed service, fine. But that doesn’t mean I support Paul, either. He may be too much like his looney dad.
A lot of us did. This campaign is unmasking these guys for who they really are. Unfortunately, it’s almost uniformly ugly.
And a poor loser.
“I think ultimately when voters fully grasp who he is and what he supports, I think theyll run away with their hair on fire.
Yes, Twerp, that is why we run away from you; we fully grasp who you are and what you support.
Any candidate who does not understand the Constitution, or who is OK with abortion or sodomite “marriage” (”Well, it’s the law of the land”) is the type of candidate I will NOT support. Thus I have crossed Trump off my list.
