When the Republican candidates take stage in Cleveland for the first presidential debate, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will likely be watching from his hotel room somewhere. The candidate who briefly dominated polling in the 2012 contest and began this campaign in the middle of the pack, looks to settle in 11th or 12th place when the debate cut-off is set.
His relegation to the consolation stage hours before the main debate is largely a consequence of the ongoing Donald Trump boomlet. While almost all candidates have suffered in the polls as the real estate developer has surged to the top of the pack, few have suffered so directly from the Trump phenomenon. Perry seemed to bet his early candidacy on attacking Trump. That strategy has backfired spectacularly.
When Trump launched his presidential campaign in early July, he led with a broadside against illegal immigration and focused specifically on criminal activity of illegal aliens. Political commentators and the media naturally seized on Trumps remarks, but Perry took specific issue with the comments. He criticized Trump strongly on cable news shows and even released a video attacking Trump.
A few weeks later, when Trump made an off-the-cuff remark about Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and seemingly criticized his war record, Perry again jumped into the fray and demanded the competing candidate apologize for the remarks....

“Forget that. Weed out the GOP of those who are actually part of the problem, first. Rick Perry is toast. And he needs to be defeated so badly he cannot resurface.”
Weed out the RINO’s. What Trump, Cruz and Walker need to do is praise each of the RINO’s for their contributions to the party and the country and in the same breath say they cannot win because Conservatives already made up their minds not to vote for them.
The field, after the media hit piece on the Conservatives will start to diminish.

The Trump presidency would be-—for Americans-—the most dynamic, top-to-bottom makeover that we have ever seen.
If he doesn’t make it now, its back to the farm hauling pig slop, and feeding the chickens.
While I did notice the definite sense of desperation, I imagine LaRaza Rick has his future sights on becoming a BIG $$ lobbyist.
Lobbyist?
Anybody who’d hire this flopla farmboy would be nuts.
I expect the undercard debate to be the more interesting. Someone is going to get a slingshot out of it, most likely Christie or Carly.
Aw, c’mon, Liz....he’s wearing #SmartGlasses, now AND he can do pull ups. What’s not to love?
Aw shucks....sometimes I can be so unreasonable....but in a nice way.
LOL.
Attacks on Hillary have 15 months left...plenty of time.
First job is to get rid of GOPe candidates who are all talk and no action.
What has the 2014 republican win in congress achieved?
Zero...Zip...Nada!
Lot’s of people have “plans”,
but only a few have the backbone and courage.
I can’t think of a better duo than Trump & Cruz,
to really change the direction of country.
The rest are in pockets of their donors.
