Cruz vs. Rand Paul in Presidential Vids: Do you want "Blessing" or "different kind of Republican?"
Reason Magazine's Hit & Run Blog ^ | April 6, 2015 | Nick Gillespie, editor in chief

Here's "Blessing," Sen. Ted Cruz's first campaign video as an official candidate for the GOP presidential nomination:

And here's Sen. Rand Paul's first entry into the same category. Paul will announce his run for the White House tomorrow:

The differences go far beyond the formats imposed by a 30-second TV spot and a longer online video—and they're indicative, I assume, of different emphases by the candidate. Where Cruz, who announced his bid at Liberty University, the world's largest religious college, is clearly driving hard toward evangelicals, Paul is stressing a larger, more-inclusive vision of the GOP. He talks about being "a different kind of Republican" and the need for specific things such as a balanced budget. The rhetoric about finding a "road back" to prosperity and respect abroad seems misbegotten: You don't have to go full Don Draper to know the best roads lead forward, not backwards. But overall, this is a strong market being laid down by an insurgent candidate whose main selling point is that he's not your typical big-government GOP hawk cum social con.

“Paul is stressing a larger, more-inclusive vision of the GOP - that includes leftists and other moonbats.”

I really posted this so you could see the comments and what the libertarian types think of you.

Nick Gillespi speaks for me in the same manner Carl Rove speaks for Republicans. Senator Cruz pointed out that our rights come from our Creator. That phrase is in our founding Document.

His passion for these Founding documents is why I support him. And why the Republican establishment, the media and democrats fear him so.

Huckleberry is not attacked like this. And he is a preacher, not a Senator. But Huckleberry neither knows nor cares about the Constitution. Therefore he is no threat.

Yes, I saw part of that Creepy Crawly interview.

Now the template is going to be is to shape who should be the Republican that Republicans should pick OTHER THAN Ted Cruz, and ignoring him totally goes into overdrive.

It’s really, THE TRUE CONSERVATIVE vs THE SQUSHIE COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE ( compromising all conservative principles ).

Apparently the day Rand Paul is supposed to announce his candidacy for getting Jeb Bush the nomination by trying to split the rest of the primary voters.

Paul supports more negotiations with Iran while standing against more sanctions that would hold the Iranian regime accountable. That’s not a conservative position, that’s Obama’s position,...not to mention....

My first account of FR was right before the 2000 election. Based on the last 3 open primaries, I predict that the FR candidate of choice will garner about 1% national interest. Each time the candidate of choice falls out the bottom the next lowest ranked candidate will be promoted. Finally when the establishment republican is selected, there will be a split between the Anyone-But-Hillary crowd and the Screwyou-Im-Going-Home crowd.

Hopefully this time will be different, but statistically, FR has been consistently not just wrong, but way wrong. Personally I'd like to see Rand Paul at some level in the next administration. I actually think Cruz has a much better chance than some of the past years' favorites though.
