Exclusive: Doug Wead says 1 candidate represents the past, the other the future.
So whats the difference between Republican presidential candidates Rand Paul and Ted Cruz?
Ted Cruz is running against Barack Obama. Rand Paul is running against Hillary Clinton. One represents the past. The other represents the future.
Both men are U.S. senators running for president in 2016. Rand Paul is from Kentucky, Ted Cruz from Texas. (Rand Paul is expected to announce his candidacy April 9.)
Both men are conservatives whose careers were launched during rise of the tea party. Both are born-again Christians. And both signed the controversial Senate letter supporting Israel. So if they have the same base of support, whats the difference?
Rand Paul excites that base and motivates them to action. Ted Cruz has all but given up on that base and is focusing exclusively and only on born-again Christians. He is betting that he will take that vote, and only that vote, and win it all. It is a high-stakes gamble that counts on driving out of the way born-again Christians such as Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio and, yes, even Rand Paul.
Bottom line: Rand Paul can win a national election. Ted Cruz cannot....

The tea party is conservative, they have been giving up on Paul for some time.
Cruz is the tea party man.
It’s Mr. Cruz or America is finished. Pretty sure of that.
That’s Cruz’s position and it’s part of the discussion whether you like it or not.
-Ted Cruz has all but given up on that base and is focusing exclusively and only on born-again Christians.-
Nonsense. Cruz isn’t ‘giving up’ on anything. Heck, he’s barely started.
Come to think of it us patriots have not yet begun to fight either. But were locked and loaded.
I liked Rand Paul when he first came on the scene. He had a refreshing take on some things. The longer he has been in Washington, the more he has “evolved” and not in a good way.
Just caught that the author is a former Bush adviser. This is probably covert Cheap Labor Express propaganda to elevate an amnesty candidate and diminish Ted Cruz.
Electability is a myth. Remember McCain and Romney had electability.
Bingo.
Looking at your posting history, it is your obsession.
Paul hasn’t evolved, he had to pretend to be conservative to get elected, once elected, then he started letting his libertarianism out.
Paul is too left for tea partiers and the base.
Yes, well, I can’t disagree with that little gem.
You are exactly right. I do support Cruz, but so far, yes, I do get your point. I know these are mean times and Cruz is not. Maybe that is his strong suit. He is the pinnacle of “cool” when under fire in these Lefty firing squad interviews. Something there, under that cool and I think it is confidence and competence. I hope so. :)
Sore loser.
Thats Cruzs position and its part of the discussion
whether you like it or not.

Discussion is one thing. What’s your position on ‘State’s Rights”.
100% Pro!
I support the original meaning of the Commerce Clause and 10th Amendment.
