Why Republicans Must Win the Senate in 2014
Roll Call's Rothenblog ^ | October 14, 2014 | Stuart Rothenberg

If next month produces a big Republican year, with the GOP gaining control of the Senate and expanding its majority in the House, it will say little or nothing about 2016, when a presidential electorate and a very different Senate class combine to create the makings of a substantially good Democratic year.

But if the GOP fails to capture the Senate this year, 2016 could turn into an unmitigated disaster for the party. And for that reason, Republicans are under extremely heavy pressure to take back the Senate in November.

Four years ago, a Republican wave swept across much of the country (but not the West Coast), handing over control of the House and giving the GOP six more Senate seats. But the fact the party kicked away a handful of Senate seats — in Delaware, Colorado and Nevada — was disappointing and discouraging to GOP contributors who thought the party had a chance to win back the Senate.

Two years later, Republicans entered the cycle needing to net four Senate seats (three if President Barack Obama failed to win a second term) and filled with optimism about reclaiming the Senate. As spring approached, the map looked good for the GOP and dangerous for Democrats.

After all, Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson and North Dakota Democrat Kent Conrad were retiring, and given each of their state’s fundamentals and the president’s weak standing, both appeared to be likely Republican takeovers. And in Missouri, Sen. Claire McCaskill was easy pickings, as long as the GOP didn’t nominate some knucklehead....

We do not have a senate race in Fl this time around but I will do what I can to elect GOP here as much as the two main ones I can vote for I have little regard for as what little regard I have for is more regard then what they are running against. Scott is in a tough race and may not prevail with a “medical” marijuana bill on the ballot supported by Crist. My congressman is a RINO and basically running unopposed.

If the Republicans don’t win the Senate, the stock market will really crater.

The guy is basically saying that the reason the GOP is not getting much donations this year is because of the previous election cycle losses going back to 2010. No mention of the GOPe slandering and attacking conservatives and Tea Party groups, which is the real cause of their financial woes.

Stuart Rothenberg has his head stuck up his a$$.

Summary:
The GOP must win the Senate in 2014 so that the election in 2016 isn’t a complete disaster.

What the article didn’t say:
The GOP must win the Senate in 2014 so that a lame duck Obama cannot go absolutely crazy implementing the final stages of his socialist agenda.

Stupid pundits think this is a game of whom wins the popularity contest. It is far more serious than that.

"I don’t think a Dem can win ANYTHING."

You would think, but it does not matter. The GOP will not oppose the Regime and its handlers.

I am of the same mind as Steve Forbes on this one. In a radio interview a few weeks ago he was asked if he thought the GOP would win control of the Senate in November, and his answer was (I'm paraphrasing here): "The bigger question is whether it even matters."

A quick look at the political scene in Washington tells me that this is probably the most inconsequential bunch of Senate elections in my lifetime. For one thing, I have no confidence that a GOP-controlled Congress (both Houses) would pursue anything remotely resembling a conservative agenda to begin with. Secondly, that jug-eared dope in the White House isn't going to put his name on any substantive legislation that comes out of a Republican Congress.

Really, all this enthusiasm worked up for the Uniparty election. It is like going to the track to watch one horse run. If the GOP wanted to do something they missed the chance long ago. For the life of me I still don’t see why Bush (the second) let the Brown Shirt Media just rip him day after day. He seemed to think he was above all that and it was just about him. He was wrong. Dead wrong. Perhaps he knew things we don’t, such as it was already too late. Just keeping folks calm as long as possible while the Titanic slowly dies.

LOL. Can you name one thing the Obama administration would implement in its last two years with a Democratic Senate that it couldn't implement with a Republican Senate?

IF we win back the senate then we MUST begin right away to pass some of the jobs bills that were stalled in the senate by reid, in order to get the economy back on track and WE MUST HAVE A MESSAGE, to the people, making them UNDERSTAND that is because of the new Republican Senate, that the economy is doing better.

IF we can make the people understand that is Republicans who are making the economy roll, we might have a chance in 2016.

After two excruciating years of Obama...executive orders...amnesty.....Obamacare rates..the world imploding....Iran likely getting a nuke... I don’t think a Dem can win ANYTHING.......

All that and much more.

========================================================

Truth be told....I'm getting an eerie feeling of deja vu.......b/c we were all saying basically the same thing back in 2012......

He could not get reelected....he had famously flubbed the debates, his 2012 numbers were in the tank....and so on......

Later we found out the conniving Chicago O-Team criminals fixed the election----all the dirty work done in crucial swing states.

Jerome Corsi's book also noted 2012 voter fraud was enormous....that we could not win in the future unless we had voter ID.

============================================

These words sent chills up my spine. Obama confidently saying: "I don't think Democrats will lose the Senate."

He K-n-o-w-s something.

Let us pray.

I dunno.

Do you like your federal judges more liberal than Ginsberg? The Senate has the power to stop that.

Maybe we can stop appointing homosexual ambassadors to Christian countries

Perhaps a GOP Senate might like to keep its power to declare war rather than surrrender it to Obama and his personal military.

Perhaps a GOP senate might keep Obama’s inept diplomacy in check; he won’t make promises to Putin that the Senate won’t allow him to do.

I know the GOP-e is not going to do anything proactive to fix things, but they are not going to be Obama butt-kissers either (despite what cynical Freepers might think)

The GOP House -- which in general is more conservative than the Republicans in the Senate -- hasn't done anything to stop any of those things you mentioned.

And when Ruth Bader Ginsberg was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court there were exactly three Republican Senators who voted against her nomination.

I rest my case. Actually, I rest Steve Forbes' case for him. LOL.

The GOP House doesn’t have the Constitutional power to stop appointments, declare war, approve treaties or Federal judges. Those are Senate functions. (LOL)

Would you like Obama to have unrestrained power to unleash the last stage of his socialist agenda? (LOL)

You seem to be making Harry Reid’s case (LOL)
