Although we are about 16 months away from having a pretty good rundown on who the likely 5 or 6 candidates will be, would be interesting to see if anyone can look into their crystal ball and foretell the final five or six candidates as we head into the second half of the 2016 primary season. Seven or eight of the possible candidates are pretty much set in stone. The most obvious candidate has to be Ted Cruz. We can all agree that if he runs, he will likely be the one to beat. But who will be the other five candidates in the final clash? Would love to hear some predictions. One of us is likely to get it right, or at least predict Five of the "Final Six".
Pick from what group?
Declared candidates?
Why, there aren’t any.
So.. you want to play fantasy football or what?
I didn’t say it made sense...I just heard he was thinking about. I doubt he would make it TO Iowa, let alone get out.
Nobody is mentioning Huckabee. Ha ha.
According to the latest polls from RealClearPolitics:
Oct. 9
Bush 15
Christie 13
Huck 9
Paul 7
Ryan 6
Cruz 6
Rubio 3
Walker3
Jindal 3
Perry 2
Santorum 2
Oct. 4
Bush 15
Paul 13
Ryan 13
Christie 12
Perry 7
Cruz 6
Rubio 6
Jindal 4
Walker 3
Santorum 3

Don’t ask me to defend the data. The two polls (or composites of polls) have 3 things in common, Bush in first, Santorum in last, and Cruz in 6th with 6%
So based on research versus my own preferences, I’d say Cruz would make the top six.
He made all those moves to minimize citizenship objections for a reason, and there is no other reason.
Final Six? Okay, here’s my best SWAG (Scientific Wild-Butt Guess).
1. Ted Cruz
2. Bobby Jindal
3. Mike Pence
4. Marco Rubio
5. Rand Paul
6. Jeb Bush
7. (my dark horse candidate) Lindsey Graham. He may run. If he does, he may hang around longer than any of us would like.
As for the others I can think of - Palin won’t run, Romney may but I think his ship has sailed, Newt and Herman Cain are interesting but won’t get anywhere.
Hey, all of the Carval cakes were really the same mold.
Just like the candidates we’ve had the last few times.
Pretty close, I’ll bet. Hope Cruz makes it that far.
I may be the only one who lists him, but he has been on the national ticket once and that generally counts for something.
Used to always enjoy such ponderings about upcoming elections, but nowadays, with the current state of the GOP, the thought rather nauseates me. 2012 was a horror to end all horrors.
The only two candidates I would likely get out to vote for would be Palin or Cruz.
Well, considering how they like to push bad nominees down our throats:
reach across the isle
Jeb Bush - VP (hey, there will probably be the need for some sort of compromise like for his daddy)
Ben Carson - Surgeon General extraordinaire
Allen West - Secretary of Defense extraordinaire
Scott Walker - Whatever office would pi$$ off the unions
Sarah Palin - Whatever office would pi$$ off the media
Debbie Wasserman is going to spend 1/2 of her free time accusing all of them of being cavemen/women beaters, etc.
Concur. I overlooked him.
the correct spelling is Sergeant, not Sargaent
Rand Paul
Paul Ryan
Mike Pence
Niki Haley
Darkhorse:
Kevin McCarty?
Personally I thought he was a lousy pick for VP and the debate proved it....he won’t last long ....if he’s dumb enough to run!!
What....no ones excited about a possible run by.....Peter King!!! Really!!!!
My guesses:
On the right:
1. Ted Cruz
2. Mike Pence
3. Rick Santorum
4. Bobby Jindal
Establishment choice:
5. Jeb Bush
Backup establishment choice:
6. Rand Paul
Cruz, Jindal, Walker, Santorum, Huckabee, one midwestern placeholder (Pence, why not). Cruz should take it but Jindal gets the media and money to give him a run for it, and beats Cruz if he stumbles.
Jeb, Romney, Rubio and Christie don’t run. Jeb and Romney will read the polls and see they can’t beat Hillary — the nomination and losing aren’t worth it for either. Rubio and Christie will read the polls and realize the can’t get the nomination and should bide their time.
Here are some suprises..
Cruz
Rubio
Pence
Walker
Paul
Perry
