Michelle Obama rallies Democrats in Detroit; 'We're better off today'

DETROIT, MI - First Lady Michelle Obama told a Detroit audience Friday "we are better off today than when Barack first took office," as she rallied the crowd in support of Michigan Democrats up for election in November.

The first lady, stumping for Democrats around the country, cited historic economic growth, higher graduation rates and health care availability as signs the country is headed in the right direction. Democrats are campaigning to retain control of the U.S. Senate in November, though Republicans are mounting a strong challenge to takeover both chambers of Congress.

In Michigan, Democrats are trying to hold retiring Sen. Carl Levin's seat by electing Rep. Gary Peters, who is being challenged by Republican Terri Lynn Land. The party is also trying to knock off Gov. Rick Snyder with former Congressman Mark Schauer.

Michelle Obama told the capacity crowd at the Detroit Music Hall that Peter and Schauer "refused to walk away from workers here in Michigan," adding that her husband's accomplishments came from Democrats in Michigan and across the country.

"Barack didn't do all that just sitting alone in the Oval Office," Obama said.

She’s in Michigan and he’s in California. The price of WH babysitters is expensive in this administration.

I've been trying to find screen shots of the crowd but the news reports have typically only shown close ups of filled sections.......

I'm not so sure there was a very good turn out as they have been claiming............

I have a feeling that's the case. While Detroit will vote overwhelmingly Democrat, that doesn't mean they love Obama. He's had an oddly adversarial relationship with them. When Dave Bing was mayor, he would meet Obama at the airport but wouldn't attend events with him.

I know when I photograph events like this, I try to stand back a bit to get a photo that gives an idea of the crowd.

Neither picture two or three are from Detroit............

Picture two's architecture is obviously European, perhaps Austria or Sweden. And there is no such street in Detroit that separates acound such hotel as the picture shows.

Picture three is probably from somewhere in the Baltic countries or maybe in China.....BUT NOT DETROIT!

Nice try......

Those of you that still have water.

Everybody has water, even me and I live north of Detroit........Those that don't simply choose not to pay for it. And that's their problem, not mine.......

A lot of the abandoned buildings are gone now. There are still plenty of abandoned residential buildings but those are going as well. Guys like Roger Penske, Dan Gilbert, Mike Illich and others have dumped millions into clean up of an ever widening area. Downtown and the riverfront are looking great these days.

Proposals for the old Tiger stadium site are now being accepted in Corktown.

That’s for sure. Living the Alinsky dream to it’s fullest. Stirring up the poor for fun and profit.

You can post what you want, there is no argument from me that decay is throughout the city of Detroit. But here is what investors are seeing:

Properties in and around the downtown area are selling like world series tickets and its expanding outwards............

Care to explain that phenomenon?

I don’t see how that’s possible. Both were posted online with captions saying they were in Detroit. And as everybody knows, you can’t put anything on the internet that isn’t true. ;~)

As for picture 3, I don’t know how you could tell where it’s from. Those are pretty generic housing projects.

My neighbor’s grandson lives in Mexicantown and likes it better than when he lived in NY.

He’s starting to buy lots around Detroit. I think he said he owns 6 of them now. They’re pure cost right now but he makes NY money and lives in Detroit so its not killing him. He has to pay taxes and keep grass mowed but even in high tax Detroit, its not bad for empty lots. He works for Quicken and says Dan Gilbert is encouraging all his HQ employees to do the same.

That photo was taken just upriver from the Bridge to Belle Isle. Prime real estate with the return of indycar racing on Belle Isle. Great place for watching powerboat racing too.

Penske is trying to bring Air racing back and says he dreams of a F-1 series race too.

Any argument is double plus ungood! The FLOTUS is the lead spokesperson for the “Ministry of Plenty.”

1984 - Ministries
Ministry of Plenty

Thesis: When controlling parties take over others, those people may rebel and disagree with what the party is for, but yet, they will continue to follow and obey them.

We are “Miniplenty”. In our ministry, we look after economic affairs.

Others would say we would starve people, but we want to make sure that the privilleged people get proper food.

Our ministry’s job it to make sure that we get everything that we need. We make sure that all the food and items are sent to us. We give out the good food to Inner Party and the alright food to the rest of the parties. Others would say we starve people, but all we do is give better food for those who work in a higher paid job.

Example:

The Inner Party is the upper-class in Oceania. They are privilged. They get better food and drinks. They are able to turn off the telescreens, not like the other people. People such as O’Brien get these privilges.
When Winston was at the Ministry of Love, he was not given much food or drink in which, became very skinny and sick
Reduction of the amount of chocolate given to each person. It went from 30 grammes to 20 grammes.

Even though the ministry is controlling over the amount of food and drink the people get, those people would get tortured if they rebel, but would continue to obey the ministry in order to survive.

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
