Mitt Romney loyalists are trying to gin up the narrative that Republicans just can't get enough of Romney.
Democrats dont want to be associated with Barack Obama right now, but Republicans are dying to be associated with Mitt Romney, Spencer Zwick, "a longtime Romney confidant who chaired his national finance council," claimed to the Washington Post. The Chamber of Commerce, which has vowed to wage war on the Tea Party and push through amnesty legislation, glowingly praised Romney, alleging he would be in a "commanding position" if he entered the 2016 race.
Romney is reportedly set to make trips to West Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado, and Virginia to campaign for Republicans. Yet besides the media, most of the people clamoring for another Romney "comeback" are his loyalists and closest advisers, who defied all statistical models to lose an election many thought should never have been lost.
In a July article for Politico Magazine, Emil Henry, who "served in multiple roles in the 2012 campaign, including adviser to the economic team, television surrogate and fundraiser," laughingly alleged that "Romney is re-emerging as the de facto leader of the Republican Party."

Are you able to make a post without referencing “main characters”?
I look back on 2008 and wonder how we ended up with such a wretched group of contenders. 2016 isn’t shaping up very well so far, either. Most of the same names are being mentioned, any of whom would be a disaster.
They were hard core.
I blame George W. Bush for a lot of that. He did very little in the way of bolstering future GOP leaders.
I’d even go back to HW on that.
Look at Bill Clinton, for all his faults, he is out there every chance he gets advising and campaigning for Democrat candidates.
It’s also difficult to be a candidate these days, given the intensity of attention by the media. Very few of us have led perfect lives, and the media can be bloodthirsty.
Is romney the new Harrold Stassen? Go away already.
Stassen did not attack conservatives like Romney.
Stassen did not impose gay marriage and polygamy like Romney.
Stassen did not impose statism in medicine like Romney.
Stassen was not a lying carpetbagger like Romney.
I didn't vote for Romney in the primaries last time around. I voted for him in the general because I didn't have a choice. That doesn't mean that I have any burning desire to do it again. Or that he's become any more attractive just because we've had two more years of Obama. He was a bad nominee in 2012, he'd be a bad nominee in 2016, and I don't care how badly Ann wants to be First Lady, he shouldn't run again.
Harold Stassen?
Harold Stassen was one of the signatories to the United Nations charter.
If that’s the Stassen you mean, didn’t he pass away more than a decade ago?
Why would you support someone who helped form the United Nations?
I don’t think polarizing freepes are democrats. I think they are true believers in conservatism. I also think they have been betrayed too often, so they look for the true conservative to stand behind.
Mitt Romney was not that person. (In fact, in essence he told conservatives to take a hike.)
Cruz can be that person. Sen. Jeff Sessions can be that person.
Using your list and rank-ordering those names
Romney, Bush, Cheney, Palin, Cruz, Rubio, Perry, Walker
Cruz (I would add Sessions here)
Palin
Perry
Rubio
Walker
Cheney
Bush
Romney
Rubio and Perry are trying to make amends, but haven’t succeeded so far. Walker has too many unknowns, but I think conservatives would in the end support him. Cheney used to be a huge favorite here, but his heart will forever keep him from running, and he doesn’t want to anyway.
Bush has been a screwball with his ‘act of love’ drama on immigration. One wonders if he’s running for an Oscar or an Office.
Romney is, of course, unacceptable, so the THIRD dose of Romney is a lot like the third dose of cod liver oil.
Let’s be reasonable here shall we? I too can’t stand McCain and Romney due to their stands on a great many issues and worse flip flopping. In a generic election I wouldn’t want anything to do with them but when it’s them against Barack Hussein Obama I have to hold my nose and choose them. It’s not pleasant doing so but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
The United States is in dire need of conservative leadership but we sadly don’t have the manpower in the conservative movement to make this very likely. This is something that we have got to change by showing how conservatism is good for the nation. Right now a fissure between conservatives and other republicans will lead to more Obamas if not worse.
You and swpa_mom I believe largely want the same things. However to be frank you come across as a schoolyard bully towards her. We must stick together and I pray that another great communicator Ronald Reagan type comes along and doesn’t just talk a good game but gets into the White House and fixes all the damage caused by Barack Hussein Obama.
What is a generic election?
" I wouldnt want anything to do with them but when its them against Barack Hussein Obama I have to hold my nose and choose them. Its not pleasant doing so but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do."
No, I don't "got" to cast a vote for a queer-loving liberal. Nor will I.
"The United States is in dire need of conservative leadership but we sadly dont have the manpower in the conservative movement to make this very likely."
That's a problem, isn't it? Yet you and others of similar mind propose a failed remedy---voting for the moderates and liberals the GOP shoves on us, and fantasizing that will somehow, one day, result in conservative representation.
You know, one of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over & over while hoping for a different result.
" This is something that we have got to change by showing how conservatism is good for the nation. Right now a fissure between conservatives and other republicans will lead to more Obamas if not worse."
Why wouldn't there be a fissure between liberals like Romney, who have a history of supporting abortion, queers, amnesty, socialized healthcare, etc., and conservatives? It's there for a reason. But you moderate Republicans are always trying to coax the conservatives to move closer and bridge that gap...come on, ditch some of those principles just for a bit. For the good of the country.
And you don't see the irony in that.
"You and swpa_mom I believe largely want the same things."
No, we don't. She's an admitted deadbeat, a parasite who brags about not donating to FR because she didn't get enough praise and approval for her Romney crush. Declaring your martyred victimhood and using it as an excuse for a free ride at the expense of others is neither conservative nor decent. I have nothing but contempt for her.
" However to be frank you come across as a schoolyard bully towards her."
I don't give a damn. The Freepathon is headed toward its third month. I have absolutely no use for despicable freeloaders like swpa_mom. If that offends your sensibilities, well...
" We must stick together
Nope.
and I pray that another great communicator Ronald Reagan type comes along and doesnt just talk a good game but gets into the White House and fixes all the damage caused by Barack Hussein "
Well, IMO Ted Cruz is the best for the job, but he hasn't declared yet. In the meantime, maybe you can talk the deadbeat into doing the right thing and ending her ride on the backs of conservatives.
courtesy (though you don’t deserve it) ping
FUMR!!
Whoa there. Is it that time of the month?
Romney is awful, but still better than Obama.
The remedy is to communicate that conservative leadership will move America forward in a calm, rational way. I hate to break it to you, but there’s no easy fix.
Not voting for the McCains and Romneys will make the problems even worse. Obama, Hillary, Warren etc will control America then.
If you’re going to bully someone, why not a liberal democrat instead of swpa_mom who is sane and rational? You are not.
Nope, not for a couple of weeks. But I tend to have little tolerance for folks who tell me I "need" to vote for a liberal and a queer-lover.
"Romney is awful, but still better than Obama."
Still not voting for him. I advise you to get used to the idea.
"The remedy is to communicate that conservative leadership will move America forward in a calm, rational way. I hate to break it to you, but theres no easy fix."
No kidding. And the fix sure doesn't involve voting for a liberal weakling.
"Not voting for the McCains and Romneys will make the problems even worse. Obama, Hillary, Warren etc will control America then."
Bullcrap. In spring of 2012, Romney said that two people of the same sex who "love each other" should be able to adopt children. If that's your thing, if you're fine with that, you go ahead and lend your support to him. I refuse to support a pervert-enabler.
"If youre going to bully someone, why not a liberal democrat instead of swpa_mom who is sane and rational? You are not."
Well, then, maybe you can join her in the victims' corner and commiserate. You seem a little thin-skinned...most adults don't repeatedly whine about "bullying."
Typical for a Romney supporter, though.
Amen
I desire conservative leadership as much as you. I don’t like Romney at all but compared to Obama he gets my vote. What’s not the answer is bullying.
