Representative Raul Grijalva (D., Ariz.) thinks that President Obama should pursue his immigration goals unilaterally, even if it hurts vulnerable Democrats in the 2014 midterms.
Thatll always be the case, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus co-chair told National Review Online when asked if Democrats were still nervous that the border crisis had turned Obamas expected orders into a political liability.
Youll always have members whose political vulnerability they tie entirely to immigration, Grijalva said. We didnt make progress when we were in the majority because we were being protective of those on immigration reform we were protecting those members. At some point do you worry more about the future or do you continue to put off the inevitable by not taking action?
Grijalva told C-Spans Newsmakers that Democrats were increasingly pessimistic about Obamas coming orders.
You can sense already, even among my Democratic colleagues, a kind of this issue is a little too complicated, too risky, lets go small, he said. Politically, theyre tied together and the children at the border and his executive orders are going to get tied together.
Grijalvas colleague, Representative Luis Gutierrez (D., Ill.), said Friday that Senate Democrats in particular are getting nervous about immigration.
I think there are sectors of our party, more in the Senate than anywhere else, that are concerned about their own political viability, either of the party or their own particular candidacies in the Democratic party, and I think thats whats fundamentally wrong, Gutierrez said on MSNBC, per the Washington Times. When public policy is defined through electoral goals and the goals of a party, then human rights and civil rights always suffer.
Gutierrez went on to say that, through Obamas executive orders, I think we can get 3 or 4, maybe even 5 million people included in a program analogous to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
This is what I said about Obamacare. The policy/law/legislation trumps immediate electoral gain because once the policy is in place, it never goes away, but Dems can always win another election when Republicans fail to repeal this stuff.
But they sent Elian Gonzales back to Cuba. Everything that the left does is aimed at realignment of the entire demographic and political make up of the US. Further, this is more proof that the left have no ethical barriers that prevent them from using children for political purposes - and they should be called out on this loudly.
Why didn't the parents of these children apply for entry into the US? Why would anyone let children travel illegally and endure all the associated dangers - with some dying, when there are alternatives. Why would a U.S. President encourage children to risk death, when there were and are clear alternatives? That question needs to be asked of Obama, and this whole mess needs to become their public relations nightmare.
Yes, Elian HAD to be reunited with his father. Loving relatives were no substitute for the father. Yet now, relatives or even complete strangers are preferable.
Appears it is too late to shoot the bastards or even beat the hell out of them.
Looks like there is not enough actual Americans to field a football team left in this country.
John Wayne, where the hell are you?
Every illegal that enters the U.S. gets a certified demodummie card and all the rest of the free sh&t just so they promise to vote for their benefactors.
Of course he thinks that - the vulnerable Rats are gringos.
“Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada”
Listen you ignorant conservative, it’s fer the chillwrens. Just shut up and pay them taxes, Uncle Sam needs em. They got votes to buy. Have ya know conpassshun.
It is as flagrant a violation of the US constitution as I can imagine, and is far worse than "not enforcing the border laws." It is a calculated treason designed to both avoid existing law and to subvert its intent. This was what they went after Reagan for---going around Congress to try to fund the Contras.
When/if anyone starts seriously looking into this, they will find more than enough reason to remove Zero.
