Sen. Rand Paul claimed in 2009 that former Vice President Dick Cheney exploited the 9/11 attacks in order to lead the United States into war in Iraq to benefit military contractor Halliburton, where Cheney had been CEO before heading to Washington, a video unveiled by blog Mother Jones' writer David Corn shows.
In the video unearthed of a speech given at Western Kentucky University, Paul argues that Cheney opposed the first Bush administration's plans but changed his mind over Halliburton, Corn reports.
"He's being interviewed (in 1995), I think, by the American Enterprise Institute, and he says it would be a disaster, it would be vastly expensive, it would be civil war, we'd have no exit strategy. He goes on and on for five minutes Dick Cheney saying it would be a bad idea," Paul says in the video.
"And that's why the first Bush didnt go into Baghdad. Dick Cheney then goes to work for Halliburton. Makes hundreds of millions of dollars their CEO. Next thing you know, he's back in government, it's a good idea to go into Iraq."(continued)

unfortunately FR has plenty of other nuts still supporting him...’no matter what’ he says or does.
Not a Rand Paul fan, but must say it’s curious to see this in the now pro-Hillary NewsMax.
Glad to see Paul is exposing his left side, he has a lot of folks fooled.
We learn more as time goes on.
NewsMax and WND I take with grains of salt, but you say they’re now pro-Hillary?
Cheney obviously changed his mind between the first and second Bush administration. And he also became a shareholder of Halliburton. And Halliburton was awarded billions in no bid contracts. Facts are facts. Did Cheney ever sell his Halliburton shares?
Same/same kemosabe.
Crony capitalism is a left wing trait.
I knew someone like you would be along shortly. I’m either a psychic or a psycho, or both.
I have a bad feeling that many here consider this a feature, not a bug.
Look, Cheney is a guy who said that deficits don’t matter and was in favor of gay marriage before Obama was. And some fools are saying that Rand Paul is a left winger because he is attacking him? Cheney represents everything that is wrong with the GOP.
No, I don’t care for the guy. Cheney was one of the first public figures of national standing to be in favor of gay marriage. He gave cover for a lot of other people to publicly do the same. Until then, democrats were embarrassed to even bring up the issue.
I see nothing in the quoted text to match the sensational headline that Mother Jones cooked up. The story was written just for the headline alone.
You guys are getting played like a fiddle by Mother Jones and MSNBC, the latter of who were pushing this all day yesterday.
If every word of this was a fantasy, Paul is still on record with far to many liberal ideas/statements to be considered a conservative by anyone with an ounce of reading ability.
“Look, Cheney is a guy who said that deficits dont matter and was in favor of gay marriage before Obama was. And some fools are saying that Rand Paul is a left winger because he is attacking him? Cheney represents everything that is wrong with the GOP.”
Fine so get him on that. But Rand Paul said to “agree to disagree” on that issue
“I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues,” Paul told vocativ.com. “The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who dont want to be festooned by those issues.”
Well, I don’t want to be ‘festooned’ by Iraq/911 conspiracy kooks
uh...yes, Cheney did manipulate and was the first person to want to start the war.
The headline of this thread is a lie cooked up by mother jones. If you read the transcript, he laid out the facts but stopped short of making any accusations.
