Former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin would prove "formidable" in a 2016 run for president, Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol predicted Thursday.
"She's a huge political talent. She has a real populist streak, and a real feel for, sort of, middle America in a way that very few politicians do," Kristol told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"The truth is, she might be kind of formidable," he added.

Her biggest obstacle, Kristol maintained, would be explaining why she stepped down as Alaska's governor before serving her entire term.
Kristol advised the next Republican nominee to "spend some time talking to her," because she "has a feel for what people out there care about, and a way to formulate things, and she should be part of the conversation."
Kristol revealed a list of his nine top possible Republicans who could vie for the nation's top office. In light of New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie's troubles over the "bridge-gate" scandal, Kristol predicted the Republican establishment would instead rally behind former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
"Jeb Bush will be the establishment candidate," Kristol said. "I think [Chris] Christie's in trouble. I think Jeb is much more likely to run than people have thought. And he will have formidable establishment support."(continued)

Kristol leaves the Saudi run, and Rove influenced Fox News and gets conservative?
And folks here think Fox News is still conservative
As taildragger points out (Post 16) Kristol is a pain in the butt (and more so every day, it seems) but in this case he was steadfastly and demonstrably on your side.
Seems pointless to waste energy hating on a guy who helped as much as he did. Another 2008 account, from the Daily Beast, no less, who despise Kristol as much as you do:
Reagan in a dress.
0’shamu has only said one intelligent thing in her life. When Sheryl Crowe suggested everyone should only use one sheet of toilet paper, she bellowed:”Did you ever see the size of my ass?”
The video of her resignation speech would be played 24/7 by the media and the democrats. And Palin looked pretty bad in that speech.
Of course for every gop candidate, they will play something 24/7. For Romney it was the 47%. For Gerald Ford it was him bumping his head.
But I think her resignation speech could be a killer. It is the same as “the potato incident” for Quayle. It is the Dukakis Tank Ride.
Of course Hillary has her “sniper fire” incident.
Yeah, OK. Kristol loves her then. Now, don’t worry about my psyche.
Meanwhile, Sarah Palin is on *my* s***list, not that anybody should care. Meh.
Meet Jeb’s wife Columba. As elusive as bigfoot, English as a second language and oops tried to sneak about $12,000 worth of goodies in from a European shopping trip without paying duty on it. Yeh a winning campaign.
What the GOP elites don’t want to talk about is that 2016 is going to be a duke out between Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Either one OK by me.
Sorry, i posted this by mistake to this thread! Meant for O’Gasbag..
“”Kristol was pushing for Palin way back at the start.”
True.
Palin is still my top choice, by far. With Cruz as back-up.
The only qualms I would have about Palin getting the nomination has nothing to do with her, but with the country as a whole. With America in such a seeming death-spiral, rapidly decaying economically, culturally and morally, I’m hardly inclined to wish this unsalvageable mess onto her. It would be like hanging a rotting animal carcas around her neck.
It all seems increasingly pointless anyway, as I fully expect the GOP-E to serve up yet another noxious, Dem-lite hack by the time 2016 comes along. As someone who has voted in every small, local, primary and presidential election all my life, it would have been almost inconceivable to imagine that I might one day just give up on voting altogether, but I’m getting pretty close to that point. But for Palin, I’d pull out all stops, both moneywise and physically legwork.
Sarah devoted a whole chapter to explaining that in her book, "Going Rogue". It ought to be required reading for any conservative who still buys into the left's 'quitter' meme.
I don't think the leading conservative contenders are going to fall for that Jedi mind trick. They know the GOP-e's game all too well, and will likely decide amongst themselves who's going to challenge the establishment RINOs for the nomination.
I personally feel that thinking had a lot to do with why Sarah bowed out last time. Notice that the wind went right out of her sails when Rick Perry jumped into the race (after promising us Texans that he wouldn't).
I think even then, she saw how the dynamics would play out in the nominating process.
Haha!
Not to laugh at your troubles or s-—list.
I would just say your psyche sounds pretty sound to me.
Hang in....
Kristol went to Alaska and “discovered” Palin for McCain. He went there on a cruise, and Palin met the boat.
Kristol has described her as “shrewd”.
I don't. Not even a little bit.
Palin ping!
Then maybe Hillary can get a similar opportunity to explain why she served for 8 years out of the 12 she was elected to serve. Is she a quitter?
But she hasn’t been to Hahvadd.
Imagine the day after an election win by Sarah. Libs jumping off the Golden Gate or moving to Tibet... imagine more possessions and more religion too...You could say I’ma dreamer but I’m not the only one...
