A Virginia lawmaker who drew gasps from his colleagues when he brandished a borrowed AK-47 during an anti-gun speech Thursday was found guilty in 2002 of committing a vicious 1999 assault, was sanctioned for legal misconduct while prosecuting a rape case, spent six months in jail for contempt of a federal court, and saw his law license revoked in 2003.
Democratic Delegate Joseph Morrissey brought the rifle to the floor of the House of Delegates to demonstrate how easy it is to carry firearms in Virginia. Republican Delegate Todd Gilbert interrupted Morrisseys speech to ask him to remove his finger from inside the guns trigger-guard a basic gun-safety practice.
I dont think you should be able to possess an assault rifle, Morrissey told ABC News on Friday.
But while Morrissey introduced a gun-control bill Thursday aimed at reducing criminal violence in Virginia, he has a history that involves physical violence of another kind.
Morrissey paid a man $500,000 in 2007 to settle a 2002 court judgment against him, related to a 1999 physical assault.
According to legal brief filed by the victims attorneys, Morrissey shouted, Im going to kill you. Im going to beat your head in, before beating the victim and smash[ing] his head into the corner of a brick wall.
The 2003 revocation of Morrisseys law license followed that courtroom reckoning...

I know.
Another lib, nutjob, sociopath. We need background checks for politicians. If they can’t pass a background check to purchase a firearm, they have no business telling me what to do. Kind of like someone that doesn’t pay their taxes running the IRS.
You know what scares me?
Posers like this guy and all those posing along.
Some animals are more equal than others.
It is mass hysteria
BAN ASSAULT LEGISLATION!!!
These people frighten me.
The last time the Clintons drove the world MAD on this issue, someone would remind everyone:
1. That is NOT an AK-47.
2. That is NOT an automatic weapon.
3. That is NOT an assault weapon.
I fear we are standing on the sidelines on this point. I have a friend , retired Marine, who is afraid to join the NRA because he “will be on a list” with the government.
It is now or never.
WTF is an assault weapon?
What is the meaning of the word “is”??
A Rock is an assault weapon loosely defined.
We are all on the list.
I’m quite familiar with double-deck busses. I got a few in my Matchbox collection :)
There already is a national gun registry. Its called the NRA membership list.

Sounds like he committed a Federal felony gun violation. Isn’t there a zero tolerance policy on Fed gun violations? Don’t those crimes carry a mandatory minimum? I guess we’ll see how serious 0bama is about gun control.
If your friend was in the Marines he’s already on the list.
Give him a break; he’s a life-long Democrat: that is enough penalty & suffering for anyone. /sarc
You didn’t need no clutch with the sychro mesh gear drive
Until it was time to stop. Back in 64, I drove with a broken clutch cable from Crescent City to the VW dealer in Eureka, CA. Getting behind logging trucks on hills & “timing” stop lights was a real pain, but not as bad as killing it, then starting again. Gotta love full-syncro.
Democrats. They can’t even hold a gun without screwing it up.
I know the quote but you will have to explain why you posted it.
Yes but you still need the clutch to get in to firs gear.
Put it in neutral and stop, turn off engine, shift into first gear, start car while in gear... repeat as necessary.
