Police Intervene, Arrest Ron Paul Backers at Missouri Caucus

Police and organizers shut down proceedings at one of Missouri's largest caucuses today, as Ron Paul supporters feuded with local GOP leaders.

"It's like the Hatfields and the McCoys around here," St. Charles County's former GOP chairman told ABC News, after police arrived on-scene with a helicopter and removed Paul backers.

In St. Charles, an exurb of St. Louis and one of the state's largest GOP counties, Paul supporters sought to elect their own chairman and adopt their own rules when proceedings opened - both of which are part of standard caucus rules and procedure. But as they argued with the caucus chair, Paul supporters held video cameras - against caucus rules, according to a GOP official who was there - and things became contentious.

"It turned into a little food fight within the caucus, between the caucus chairman trying to control the caucus and certain elements, I guess with Ron Paul, trying to be heard," said Tom Kipers, a former chairman of the St. Charles GOP, who attended the caucus at Francis Howell North High School....

“Paul and his supporters should have been expelled from the race already. Who needs hooligans in an election?”

Ron Hicks, Candidate for Missouri State Representative 107th district, had this to say:

“It was my first caucus ever. At the beginning, I thought maybe this was the way things were normally run. I quickly realized that something was wrong. There were ten or fifteen Ron Paul supporters who really seemed to have their own agenda. It was so out of control that other Ron Paul supporters were standing up just to say ‘We’re not with those guys.’ I could see real fear in people’s faces as things started to get out of hand, and I really thought we might be in danger of a possible riot. That’s why the police came in and ultimately shut us down. I suddenly realized that we were never actually going to get it going, and we didn’t. The whole thing just crumbled because people on our side resorted to tactics normally employed by the left.”

Or Gov.Perry.
OK, he’s probably not a good debater, but the best conservative governor in the whole country.

A caucus, as Missouri proves, never represents the voters’ will. A few boisterous participants can change the result. It’s a shame.

The hell with that. Paul’s supporters are a bunch of unwashed hooligans. “Constitutionalists”, my foot. Have you seen them? And Paul is an old clown.

“At every step, the Paul supporters were loud and disruptive. When arguing, they got out of the bleachers (we were in the gym of a highschool) went to the floor, and yelled in faces with fingers pointed. Even from the other side of the gym, I was intimidated. The most outspoken were in front of the bleachers acting as cheerleaders trying to get more people on their side.” - caucus-goer Rachel

I would have easily chosen Perry over any of the clowns left still vying for the top slot. Just as easily, I would have taken Cain over Perry.

If Sarah puts her hat in the ring during a brokered Convention, she's my top dog. No indication she's even interested though... :-(

Paul is less electable than your average FReeper. I've run into Paul supporters from Top to Bottom though. From College kids to Grandparents.

Not all of them are whackadoos... Interesting how many of the whacky types end up in the MSM headlines though.

All that being said... The Party Chair ignored the rules. Period. Doesn't matter who it was. The calls for division of the en banc slate of Delegates were in their Rights under Roberts Rules. You can have a vote to table such a question indefinitely, but you cannot adjourn while the division is left unresolved.

Which of the other candidates and there supporters would you describe as representing the "Constitutionalists"?

The real conservatives, a.k.a. Newt’s supporters.

Kinda makes me wonder where we’d be at had either Palin or Cain had made it to this point...

A party seeking power doesn't have any use for candidates that believe the Constitution limits their power.

Have you seen Newt's voting record on federal "Commerce Clause" legislation like the Assault Weapons Ban? These people you call "Constitutionalists" have some odd ideas about what's in the Constitution.

What Republican candidate actually represents the interests of "original intent" Constitutionalists?

Name one.

OK... I'll bite. How is Ron Paul "in bed" with Islamists? Last I heard, he was the first one to want letters of M&R signed out against Al Queda in the wake of 9/11, wants us to stop buying oil from the Middle East, wants to cut off ALL foreign aid funding, etc...

I assume you have a specific example to cite?

Like I said, they let Ron Paul be there because he makes it easy to maginalize the Constitutionists. The Republicans don’t really want them, they just want to lay claim to the mantle.

I really don’t feel like talking about a hasbeen like Paul. I ignored him from the start of the campaign, and I’ll continue doing so.

It’s his supporters who ignited my anger today.

IOW, you can't name anything that puts him firmly "in bed" supporting the Islamists.

Yes, he's an anti-war isolationist. Yes, those policies are short sighted and even dangerous in today's global political climate. Yes, he should rightly be castigated and ridiculed for standing on a podium next to the likes of avowed Communist Dennis Kucinich and spouting anti-war drivel.

This does not put him "in bed" with the Islamists though.

There is no need to invent things against his candidacy. Using facts is much more effective than just making sh*t up.
