Bill Burton, the former Obama 2008 campaign press secretary who went on to found the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA, appeared on Andrea Mitchells MSNBC show Thursday, trying to distinguish between the rhetoric used by HBO Real Time host Bill Maher and conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. Maher recently donated $1 million to Priorities USA.
Mitchell asked Burton how Maher has gotten away with what he said about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin while Limbaugh was condemned for his own ill-advised remarks.
Well, a couple of things, Burton said. First of all, obviously, some of those things were vulgar and inappropriate and said over the course of years of a comedians life. Its not language I would use or language we would use at Priorities USA.
Mitchell noted that was similar to what Republican presidential hopeful former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said when he was confronted with the question about Limbaughs rhetoric. But Burton justified Mahers attacks as those being from a comedian, not a political leader.
But the notion that there is an equivalence between what a comedian has said over the course of his career and what the de facto leader of the Republican Party said to sexually degrade a woman who led in a political debate of our time, is crazy, he said. Theres no just similarity about what Rush Limbaugh said, lying about the argument that Miss Fluke was making a law student at Georgetown and what a comedian has said in the past.
Burton went on to use the question posed by Mitchell to attack Romney, pointing out that Romney had also sought the endorsement of Ted Nugent.
And finally, if we want to have this debate where were stacking up what supporters of candidates have said over time, you know Mitt Romney begged Ted Nugent for his endorsement, and he gave it to him, and he embraced it, and his campaign was bragging about it, Burton continued.
But you look at some of the things hes said. But this is all distraction between some of the real differences in this race between Mitt Romney and President Obama on key issues. And thats whats important here. Where do they stand on contraception? What kind of Supreme Court justice is Mitt Romney going to put in place? An Antonin Scalia or an Elena Kagan? Thats the important [thing] here.
Namecalling is probably inappropriate at any level. However, the hyperbolic outrage over the very near appropriate use of the term by Rush contrasted with the absolute silence over the pure vitriolic use of the term by the left is more than revealing. The problem is, the intelligent people on the left are pure liars and the intelligent people on the right are too meek to point it out. Everyone else, it just flies over their heads and the conversation boils down to either, RUSH IS MEAN or WELL WHAT ABOUT BILL MAHER?
Ahhh...Let me just savor that thought for a moment.....
Take your time, we have all summer.
.
Maher is an untalented unfunny comedian who the left uses to say liberal things in poor taste in the political arena under the fakery of humor and satire.
Whenever anyone mentions they watch his show, I write them off into perpetuity as unthinking dolts.
He used the word slut, SO? It is a perfectly good English word. The modern sense of "a sexually promiscuous woman" dates to at least 1450. However women on three Continent's have demonstrated saying they're proud of being "sluts", and have given it a positive connotation (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/women_shealth/8510743/These-slut-walk-women-are-simply-fighting-for-their-right-to-be-dirty.html.)
Maybe they should form a union? They might even get a health plan they like...

I’m guessing that was a real sacrifice for Bill Maher, whereas $1 million for Rush is pocket change.
I wonder if Maher really gave that much or if it is just propaganda to benefit each of them, Obama and Maher, and to put pressure on other Lefies to do the same..
I agree! Big of Obama's man to admit it though.
Didn’t think of that. FEC records would tell the story, but BHO controls the executive branch, so no guarantee there. wouldn’t put it past the Chicago gang.
