It seems Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul is now the leading Republican presidential candidate in Iowa, according to the latest Public Policy Polling survey released late Sunday.

The Texas Republican, who has for weeks witnessed a surge in support, is leading the Republican field with 23 percent support. Mr. Paul is followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 20 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, former Pennsylvania U.S Senator Rick Santorum at 10 percent, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann at 10 percent, Texas Governor Rick Perry at 10 percent and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at 4 percent.

That's crazy. Paul does have a strong ground game, however.

Fortunately, it's PPP.

And yes, I know that many — if not most — here will not be happy with this!

Does that mean Ron Paul has decided not to run as third party?

I actually though that he might have shot himself in the foot in the last debate, but I guess not.

No, but it just might mean that they stop asking him that question now.

I would think the question should be asked.

I would think the question should be asked.

LOL! Ask the current frontrunner if he wants to dump this race and maybe start over in another Party, sounds like a smart question to you? LOL!

Ron Paul has fake eyebrows.

Aka “eyebrow merkins.”

Excuse me... you just said he has not decided against running as third party even though he supposedly is in the lead in Iowa and according to you with lots of money.

Normal Republicans might want to know why they should vote for such a nut to be the Republican President if he still won’t rule out a third party run at this late point.

Capisce?

I didn’t see any specifics of the poll. Adults, registered, likely caucus, yada yada...

Hawkeye Cauci is a messy messy affair; polls mostly meaningless.

Would expect Paul to do better there, Perry maybe to surprise a bit.

Sux that the affair affects the race as much as it does.

And Ron Paul raised over $4M from a December 16th online Money Bomb.

A staggering figure, given his debate disaster. Is George Soros money behind this?

The longer he stays in the republican primaries, the harder it will be for him to go 3rd party — filing deadlines...

After making comments commensurate with those of a 6-year-old on Leno`s show, along with his insane stances on Iran and other foreign policy issues that place to Obama`s political left (if that were ever possible).. yet here he is, leading?

The dems have to be loving this. If Paul is truly pulling this level of support from Republicans, then the GOP has ceased to be a serious political party.

Gotta agree with you. If this is true, Iowa is disgracing itself.

PPP doesn't give the real breakdown but one thing I noticed was they asked the questions of 55% of Republicans who voted in the last Iowa Caucus, 30% had never voted in a Caucus and 15% voted in the Dem Caucus.

I went back to the IA poll of a few days ago and noted their internals (they make them very public) Amongst Republicans the order was Gingrich-Perry- Paul and Romney tied for 3rd.

Among Independents polled for the Iowa Republican Caucus the order was, Gingrich-Paul-Romney

Among Democrats polled for the Republican Iowa Caucus the order was Paul-Gingrich-Romney.
