AS FORMER Republican frontrunner Herman Cain looks likely to exit the race for next November's presidential election, the GOP right's one-time darling, Sarah Palin, has been called back to the fray.
The Daily Beast claims that Cain has told his campaign staffers he is "reassessing" his run in light of recent allegations that he'd had a 13-year extramarital affair which only ended shortly before he launched his bid for the party nomination.
"We have to do an assessment as to whether or not this is going to create too much of a cloud in some peoples minds as to whether or not they should support us going forward," said Cain, who has already faced accusations of sexual harassment during his six-month campaign.
Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Sarah Palin and her supporters have moved swiftly to profit from Cain's probable demise. Conservatives4Palin have paid $6,500 to run an advertisement called 'The Challenge' tonight in the Sioux City television market in the state of Iowa.
The TV spot, a rather hastily assembled ragtag collection of Palin speeches decrying President Obama and the corrupt American political system, and singing her own praises in fighting said system, finishes with Palin being exhorted: 'Run Sarah run!'.
Iowa is the first state that goes to the polls to choose the Republican candidate in a caucus that will be held on January 3. A good result there has in the past helped launch outsider candidates - and has also been the political graveyard for frontrunners.
Palin never formally committed herself to running for the candidacy, encouraging the press to play a "Will-she, won't-she?" guessing game until her chances appeared to have been fatally damaged by revelations of drug use and adultery in a muck-raking biography, as The Week reported at the time. ·
No, and the video was totally ruined by the overly loud flute music that did not fit the video content.
Sh isn’t running because she will get the Cain treatment. That book was the shot across the bow and she knew what would be coming.
Isn’t it too late to get on the ballot in several early states? She’d pretty much have to run third party at this point.
Frankly if Mitt Romney is the nominee I plan on voting for Palin even if I have to write her name in.
No.
Yes - she will return to endorse Newt.
I agree with your point, though IMO nobody has been subjected to anything close to the extreme attacks Palin received. The vitriol from the left (including the burning of her church as they left Wasilla after the 2008 election) was in a whole new gear vs. Palin.
Excellent points. I know now not to read anything posted from “The Week”, which apparently is a British publication.
I guess if they don’t have the facts, it’s fun to just create some.
If Cain withdraws, I am not sure that I will support another candidate.
If it’s Newt or Mitt, I will write in Palin.
God help us.
More importantly, Cain has already announced he’s staying in the race. This author needs to keep abreast of things.
Roger that, on both counts.
This is a source stirring up trouble, trying their best to move a “demise” of Cain right along and sewing the seeds of vitriol between Cain and Palin supporters, rousing the moderates back into the moderate camp who will never vote for Palin and only barely for Cain. The DC happily advancing basic chaos.
What’s up with that? The Week? Is that Daily Caller material again? They are drama oriented for profits (as are all, I suppose) but habitually splash around promoting chaos as much for conservatives as Marxists.
I dunno.
What this piece from the week/UK tells us is Axelgreasy can post his drek even through the British media vermin.
I’m voting for her. I’ve had just about as much of this field as I can stand.
Several lies in the story. Palin had nothing to do with the commercial. And it wasn’t made to ‘profit’ off of Cain’s current ‘troubles,’ as all the efforts and timing were made preceding it. Not to mention, the ridiculous nonsense of the McGinnis book and its recounting of various moonbat Alaskan bloggers’ concocted fantasies, was hardly a factor in anything.
I hope Cain stays in, and doesn’t allow media slime to deter him. Am looking forward to a Cain and 0 face-off.
First of all why didn’t they mention the disgraced author, Joe McGinniss by name? Second of all, her decision had NOTHING to do with his dirt book - even the evil media didn’t want have anything to do with it. The Week better be careful - in the way they phrase things. I’m hoping Sarah and Todd takecare of ‘Harper and JoeMcGinnis’ business. She endured their 24/7 mud and they couldn’t touch her and she keep scoring higher in her comments, etc. She’d bow because of their mud? NEVER.
Will Herman Cain’s demise see Sarah Palin return?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a word: No.
But I like the premise of this question. SOMETHING will trigger the return of Sarah Palin. Don’t know what. Don’t know when.
Time will tell.
