This was the attitude among Nixon aides after the TV debate against Kennedy. Who cares if our candidate is sweating?

That was then. The news media were 1000% behind Kennedy and so they created and sold the "Nixon lost because he was sweaty" meme. Now we have much greater ability to analyze and discuss things among ourselves, draw our own conclusions, and communicate directly with one another. We don't have to let the media control this election. Mr. Cain is doing his part. Now we must do ours.

It may have appeared that Herman did not understand the question— but there is a huge flaw with that thought....

Herman knows exactly what defined contributions are....he is a career CEO....he knows EXACTLY what defined contributions are...I think several viewers may not be familiar with the term, and so they assumed when Herman passed to Newt that he didn’t know(that is called projection- something the left is very good at...)

anyway— Herman passed to Newt first, because it was Newt’s turn to go first....Herman caught himself....hence Newt saying “It’s(that’s?) only fair.”

But anyone who knows what defined contributions are would realize that Herman would have been a failed CEO if he did not know what it means....if you listen to his answer— he explains it to the audience— once it was his turn...

I understand it may have looked like Herman confused...but he was thinking about how best to answer...it is not a term most folks are familiar with....I don’t trust slick willy’s— I want someone who thinks about the question and how to answer..it shows honesty- that polished, slick, politico demeaner is a red flag....

That being said— every candidate has strengths and weaknesses- the smart ones know their weaknesses and hire folks to cover those— it is one key to success in business....they saying is “Soar with your strengths, hire your weaknesses.” A rule for managers and leaders to live by...

It get so tired of people acting like Cain isn’t competent or capable. He held his own just fine against Newt. He may not have gone into as much detail, but that was over the heads of a lot of people.

Knowledge is half the equation, you also have to be able to inspire, connect, create trust and educate (in a way that the average person can understand)

In Cain we have someone who can do BOTH.

I really believe he has a better shot at beating Obama than Gingrich. But Gingrich is high on my list of VP choices :-)

After watching it again, it was clear that is what it was.

Thanks for that astute observation, eeevil!

I could live with Newt as Veep...and I would even go hunting with him!!!

I also love how Cain has stood up to the media....so many FREEPers whine about no one standing up to the media, and then when someone does (Cain)- folks come out swinging about he is not ready, he didn’t handle this well, not Presidential, etc etc.....

hypocrisy! how can you whine about how terrible the media is, should not be trusted, but expect folks to hire a team of PR folks play the media game? The best way to stop the media games it to NOT PLAY THEIR GAME!

We say we want to not play their game....but I guess what some mean, is that they just want to play the game better than the media....go figure...

It was a fantastic hour and a half. Still smiling this morning with hope for the nation. IF we can manage to survive to January ‘13.

it helps when you know and understand the term...sometimes political, legal, or business talk seems like a foreign language....King should have framed the question better...

They did look like a Presidential team as they waved to the audience after the debate. I would call them a well balanced ticket.

That last question Cain asked Newt about the VP at first appeared to be a joke but when Newt answered back as a VP rather than replying he'd be the prez was telling. Then they ended with the perfect ticket photo op with arms around each other's shoulders and waving. I'd be happy with them both in either POTUS or VP.

There’s only one POTUS. It’s not a tag team. The question is which one. My feeling is any POTUS, at this time, must have experience and knowledge of statecraft.

“Impressions count more than actual content.”

Which sums up your analysis.

Cain did fine and so did Newt.

Have they corrected some of the production problems?

Cain didn’t duck. they were supposed to take turns answering and Cain started to answer then realized Newt was supposed to go first.

There was another instance where he was going to answer, but while formulating his answer he allowed Newt to go first since the question was in his wheel house.

These little non issues are just that, non issues from those that have nothing better to complain about.

I for one, suggest shutting down (all) as in ALL the liberal media sponsored (interefered with...) regular debates, which all end up devolving into liberal media interference and “gotchas”.

And replacing every single one, with this style.

Starting today. Cancel all those already scheduled. Or just do not attend.

Replace the media. Don’t work with them.

Do not offer them aid and comfort. Let them starve, or collect unemployment. Their time is over and done.

Replace them.

Now.

Cain’s question to Gingrich toward the end of the debate was the funniest moment of the campaign so far. I watched it about 4 times at the replay and laughed each time. I hope it’s on youtube so I can watch it again without the cspan buffering.

Newt stumbles all over himself, interrupting himself and then taking off in another direction. He uses voice inflection dramatically and way too many words to get his point across. I say keep it simple. You had to think twice before getting his message.

Mr. Cain is calmer, more to the point and is easily understood. Small pauses in speech are effective and show the man is communicating directly to his audience. Therefore Mr. Cain left us informed. I think more people can follow Mr. Cain. He sspeaks like he is sitting across the coffee tagble from you, which is more personal.

Actually, they weren’t that far apart, and I appreciated their good will toward eachother.

I would not call this “Going up against Newt”. This was not a debate but I watched it all because it was interesting to hear what they had to say. Much more informative than what media calls a debate.
