Not everyone may agree, but then again, not everyone thought Reagan would win the 1980 nomination. Let me know what you think?

You’ve been eating meadow muffins.
Thanks, for the history lesson. None of that is news, nor does my tagline exhalt Karl Rove. Nice try though.
It is not too early to evaluate Perry as a candidate. Maybe it is for you, but the rest of us have already looked at his record and moved on. He is unacceptable and you people who insist on pushing him are going to put us in the same place the Mittwits did in 2008.
That isn’t what they said back then. In fact, Reagan’s opponents loved to lampoon his alleged “gaffes” (e.g. “killer trees”, “ketchup is a vegetable”).
I’m sure much of it was news to you.
How nice also that you think your tagline doesn’t indicate that you have a positive view of Rove. I’m glad.
As for Perry’s record, I doubt that you actually know much about it - the good or the bad - apart from what the MSM and other campaigns have fed you.
There are no perfect R candidates. Several, however, would very likely be good Presidents. That’s why I find most of the field acceptable. On the other hand, your kind of shallow partisanship is likely to yield a Romney nomination.
Fact. Reagan did lose his first debate against Walter Mondale in 1984. Reagan recovered to have a good second debate performance stating that he would not exploit for political purposes, his opponents youth and inexperience.
Fact. Perry needs to make his own recovery in the next debate at Dartmouth on Oct 11th. We shall see.
I do see Perry as a Reagan conservative, nonetheless.
What do I think? I think I may vomit!
Please, that other personality cult already beat the Reagan analogies to death going from silly to crazy, now the Perry-dactus?? Time to move on ..
Perry’s entire campaign has been one long “hold my beer and watch this” moment.
Can anyone name the highlight of the Perry campaign? Some great triumph or bright moment?
“Hold my beer and watch this” pretty much sums up the entire campaign so far.
The only 'shallow partisanship' here is from you. It is you who doesn't seem to care if a nominee is corrupt, as long as he fits some kind of phony model of what a 'conservative Republican' is. It is you who chooses to ignore the many red flags in Rick Perry's background. And it is you who tries to drag the name of Ronald Reagan through the mud by comparing him to a bag of excrement like Rick Perry.
*derisive laughter*
The country can't afford to play second fiddle to elitist politically correct games anymore. Our economy is broke (thanks to loan schemes deals politicians made with banksters) and our generous “citizens of the world” have shipped our jobs overseas and swamped the country with millions of identity stealing illegals for taxpayers to imprison, educate and support. We are in a race to the bottom with the serfs of India and China.
They think they have outgrown our constitutional rights and think they are bigger than the interests of our own country and people. They think they are rulers of the “the world’ and “the economy” and that our laws and treasury is there to serve socialist corporate shysters. That makes us the taxpaying slaves and soldiers of their globe and their “economy.” Who does the elite think they are and how did they get so freaking megalomaniac twisted?
Although I had high hopes in Perry's tenth amendment talk, for it's promise to shrink government to it's constitutional purpose (one of which is to protect the borders) it turns out that he is one of them. He wants to go to war in Mexico against the cartels? We need another war for global "democracy." /s/ He'll screw us some more while flapping his gums about the tenth amendment.
If Perry were corrupt, the TX Ds would have indicted him long ago. After all, they indicted and convicted DeLay without a crime having been committed. But I’m sure you understand how Austin works and all that.
I don’t think I need to say more about “shallow partisanship” because you post says it all.
BTW, because you seem to be reading comprehension impaired, Perry isn’t “my” candidate, nor have I said Perry is the equivalent of Reagan. But, frankly, if thinking these things improves your day, feel free to continue. I wouldn’t want to steal your joy.
Reagan was out of politics for a long time before he got in it. By the time Ronald Reagan did enter politics, he'd already marked out very well where he stood and which issues he wanted to concentrate on. He already had his positions and supporters and didn't have to stumble around as much as other people entering politics do.
Rick Perry's more of a career politician and has the kind of checkered reputation that career politicians usually acquire. Anybody who's been in actual electoral politics for 25 years, starting at the bottom and working his way up, has probably made wrong decisions and fallen in among the wrong people at some point or other. In some states that's truer than in others.
There's something that's admirable about Rick Perry's rise in the world -- at least in comparison to people who had it made because of money or parentage. But he's no Ronald Reagan.
Rick Perry=George W. Bush (and John McCain)= RINO
Don’t recall Reagan calling Americans heartless either.
I don’t mind all of the criticism of my column so much. In fact, I posted it here so I could get some media-free feedback on this idea. I like to see the free-wheeling exchange of ideas, and the humorous digs.
I’m not sure what a troll is, but I had forgotten that I had “joined” on March 3, 2010. I must have been responding to some comment about another article. When I registered today, I was surprised to see that I already had an account.
You’ll be pleased to know I get paid next to nothing to post on Yahoo News, so don’t worry about me making a ton of $ by posting this here.
I take it that you have the power to have me blocked for posting an opinion about Rick Perry. I didn’t realize that was the “wrong” answer. For a site titled “free republic,” it’s not the opinion I expected.
If you block me, that’s your call. So be it.
It will last 60 days.
Your satire is priceless : )
