With Rick Perry proving to be a serious threat to Mitt Romneys presidential campaign, the former Massachusetts governor swung through Tampa Friday to exploit what some Republican see as Perrys Achilles heal: immigration.
"We must stop providing the incentives that promote illegal immigration, Romney told more than 100 people attending a Republican Hispanic conference in Tampa. " As governor, I vetoed legislation that would have provided in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants and I strengthened the authority our state troopers had to enforce existing immigration laws."
Romney, 64, never mentioned by name the Texas governor, who leads Romney in most national polls as well as in early primary and caucus state. But immigration is a new issue of focus for Romney in this campaign cycle, and his campaign knows that Perry, 61, is already facing criticism from conservatives for not taking a hard enough line on illegal immigration.
Perry, for instance, in 2001 signed a Texas version of the "Dream Act" that made Texas the first state to allow in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants - much like the bill Romney boasted of killing in Massachusetts.
Illegal immigration remains a hot button issues among Republican activists, though leaders in Texas - where 38 percent of the population is Hispanic - have tended to take a more moderate approach to the issue. Perry, for instance, said last year he had no interest in passing a tough Arizona-style immigration law for his border state.....

Rick Perry
Yep. Even OBAMA has the opportunity to get to the right of Perry on this "make or break" issue.
It'll take a while for most to realize it, but Perry is T O A S T.
It's a shame that such a talented, and otherwise sound conservative, chose to commit suicide before he ever got to the podium.
It has a hell of a lot to do with the way you govern!
I hate being played. This is a game to them. They are children that think the drones will always buy their crap and always support them.
Small world ~ we visit the natural foods store there to pick up gluten free stuff every time we visit. We also know folks involved with Scripps, et al
I might as well say something good about the guy. By courting the Tea Party, the Mittster is going to make it harder for his supporters to stay home and sit on their hands should Perry or Sarah Palin win the nomination. Although a RINO, he could be called a good Republican.
A professional politician will say anything to get votes.
But if you point that out you are a Romneybot or are trying to reelect Obama. So say Perry supporters.
If Perry wont admit he has been wrong and specifically lay out his specific proposals for immigration, then he is not to be trusted on this issue.
Perry advocated for instate tuition for ILLEGAL aliens and he defends that position to this day. Given that and that alone, he is not to be trusted. But we know there is more -- far more.
Yes, he is.
Perry & John F’n Kerry......rymes don’t it ?
: )
Romney is pissed that. Perry stole the mantle of biggest RINO from him.
“You have to have an immigration visa to be an immigrant. Otherwise you are just a visitor.”
Just like a burglar is just a “visitor.” LOLOLOL
Texas wrote an amicus brief in support of the Arizona law, and the Governor expressed an opinion that the law was not “necessarily right approach for Texas.” That’s not exactly condemnation of the law.
As with the Arizona law, few of us know what the “bi-national health care” reference meant. Too many people rely on the media and sound bites rather than looking for original sources.
As to the binational health care - it was a study on the feasibility of changing State law to allow private insurance companies to sell policies that would be good on either side of the border for people who move travel back and forth. Unfortunately, it was a study only and the law has never been changed.
More, by the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein:
” You have to have an immigration visa to be an immigrant. Otherwise you are just a visitor.
Just like a burglar is just a visitor. LOLOLOL “
Yeah.........
That was a study about the feasibility of selling private insurance. The State’s only “cost” would have been to change the law to allow cross-border sales. The law was never changed, however.

Texas immigration policy allows for illegals to care for your yards. So Romney would be A-Ok if Rick Pherry was his gevernor.
ENFORCEMENT: In December 2006, Governor Romney Signed A Memorandum Of Agreement With The Federal Government To Allow State Troopers To Enforce Federal Immigration Laws. .Governor Mitt Romney and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ICE, which will give specially trained Massachusetts State Troopers the authority to administer and enforce federal immigration laws in the Commonwealth. (Office Of The Governor, Governor Romney, ICE Sign Immigration Enforcement Pact, Press Release, 12/13/06)
IN-STATE TUITION: Governor Romney Vetoed In-State Tuition For Illegal Immigrants. Romney also vetoed a number of outside sections of the budget, including: A plan that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate at our public colleges and universities as Massachusetts citizens. (Office Of The Governor, Romney Signs $22.402B Fiscal Year 2005 No New Tax Budget, Press Release, 6/25/04)
It is astonishing that the tea party folks are bending over for Perry.... the guy who supported Vicente Fox's vision for open borders, praised Hillarycare and was Al Gore's campaign chairman in Texas. If those are not all red flags...I don't know what is! If nothing else, it shows very bad judgment. Very leery of him... in a trojan horse kind of way. Just sayin'......
Perry: "President Foxs vision for an open border is a vision I embrace." http://governor.state.tx.us/news/speech/10688/
Thank you for the FACTS.
Your current gervernor is Obama.
And about 1/3 of them would be illegal aliens, which makes it all the more important to end this pandering and to never have another Republican president pushing amnesty for illegals.
If another amnesty is given with the numbers now in the US, then the Dims would soon have political majorities for the foreseeable future.
