During Perry's Tenure in Texas, Spending in Texas grew from about 49 Billion a year, to over 90 Billion a year. Texas budgets every 2 years, to the following show the budgets for both Bi-annums. Divide by two for average yearly spending.
Texas 2010-2011 Budget 182 Billion
http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Texas_state_budget
Texas 2000-2001 Budget was ~98 Billion and is available at
http://www.lbb.state.tx.us/Bill_76/Bill-76-4_Conference_Summary_0599.pdf
In other words CLOSE to 100% Growth in spending. (from 49 B to 91 B)
During this time, the Census says Texas grew from 20 Million (2000 Census) to 25 Million (2010 Census). Thats a growth of 25 Percent.
So much for Perry's Fiscal Conservative Credentials.
I’m not a big supporter of Mr. Perry. However, if he (or Mickey Mouse, for that matter) gets the nomination, I
l will vote for him.
Having said that, Tx seems to be doing okay compared to a lot of other places.
RicK perry did not “Give” us no income tax. we had none when he came into office, and we had to beat back attempts TWICE to add a state income tax.
We are blessed with Oil, and Oil has gone up 3-5X in the last 10 years.
That’s the “real” secret of why the debt in texas is not bigger.
It’s already big enough

It costs a growing state more to do business today than it did 10 years ago. Amazing.
population grew by 25% State Spending grew by almost 100%.
Make excuses all you want for a big governement big spending RINO
“Do you want a government that spends all it gets?”
I dunno, you would have to ask Sarah Palin about that. She gave everything away in her state.
Perry is a lot of things but he is NO!!!! RINO
The USA budget increased as a percent LESS during this period.
Will you now make excuses for that?
Yeah, that's the ticket!
Would that make you happy, who's your perfect candidate? (that can win)
I think you should look around for a candidate you can trust rather than “well, he’s not as bad as X,Y or Z”
It's a joke, on Newsweak.
No, I don’t want another candidate like DOLE or MCCAIN.
RINOS can’t win
Thanks BereanBrain.
Texas can’t run a deficit. Yesterday someone claimed Perry’s big sin was using matching funds to help balance the budget.
Since it consists of Texas taxpayer money. and is to help pay for federally MANDATED programs, I don’t see the problem. If it’s so bad maybe Texans should just not pay Federal Taxes.
Or maybe they would like Texas to have a Personal income tax. That has a snowballs chance in H of passing in Tx.
So Perry sets the price of oil? Really?
I don’t like Perry but your arguments are pathetic.
The level of spending is important, but what was the money used for? To pay current bills, plain waste, or legitimate investment?
They’re in a nice position in terms of natural resources, so maybe a lot of that is preparing for what they think will be $150 oil again. Maybe they’re structuring the states infrastructure to attract companies from around the world.
A true leader plans 10-20 years ahead of time. Parts and labor cost money.
I don’t know much about Texas so I don’t know. Maybe this guy is all wet. But to criticize simply for the amount of spending, especially when none of it is borrowed, is short-sighted, it seems to me. There’s the other side of the ledger to consider, imo.
Who do you want to run for President, B?

check out the lower left of the debt clock (revenue) vs spending.
40 Billion in the red. We have borrowed and taken rainy-day funds to make the difference.
This level of spending is not sustainable.
But Rick will be gone before the stuff hits the fan in the next budget cycle.
Please remove me from your ping list I am on too many.Thanks.
That's all we have to choose from, like it or not.
We can control a RINO POTUS if we strengthen seats in the House and Senate with more TP members.
Obamao's defeat is paramount in this election, four more years of this jackass and the US is but a footnote in history.
