During Perry's Tenure in Texas, Spending in Texas grew from about 49 Billion a year, to over 90 Billion a year. Texas budgets every 2 years, to the following show the budgets for both Bi-annums. Divide by two for average yearly spending.

In other words CLOSE to 100% Growth in spending. (from 49 B to 91 B)
During this time, the Census says Texas grew from 20 Million (2000 Census) to 25 Million (2010 Census). That’s a growth of 25 Percent.
So much for Perry's Fiscal Conservative Credentials.

Texas “state” spending went up from 44B to 77B. And, most recent budget cycle, it actually was cut from 80+B to 77B.

Do all state budgets increase from the start of an administration to the end? If they all do then it becomes a question of what is normal vs what is extreme and the only way to do that is to compare to other states and previous candidates that got support from conservatives. Its easy to say 6'4" is tall....but not when you are talking about the NBA.
I ask again, did the budget of California under Reagan increase less, more, or much more than Texas under Perry. If it was more or much more under Reagan, then I don't see how you can use it as an argument to say Perry is not worthy of being the nominee unless you also feel Reagan should not have been the nominee.

Its up to the people of that state to decide. I am personally opposed and agree about it being unsustainable. I'm just trying to determine if what Perry did is out of the ordinary for candidates that conservatives have supported in the past.

I did. Under Reagan the California budget increased 177%. Makes Perry look like an amateur. I'm sure there were reasons for both, and more to the story which I hope others will help fill me in on....but if you are simply going to dismiss someone for the percentage in which spending went up...then Reagan should have gotten the boot faster than some are trying to do to Perry.

You know what I see there? A Debt-to-GDP ratio GOING BACKWARDS. Virtually unheard of!

Texas has seen its Debt to GDP ratio drop under Perry even now. It was almost 23% a few years ago, now it's 18% and still dropping.
Watch the debt clock for Texas. Spending is dropping, debt is dropping, debt to gdp is dropping. Revenues and GDP are increasing.
Texas S&P credit rating increased in part because it still has money in a rainy day fund, the state economy is growing despite Obamanomics and budgets are under control.
State population grew almost 21% in those 10 years which has some effect on those budget numbers you gave.
From 2000 ($44.2b) vs 2010 ($80.4b) budget numbers, the difference is accounted primarily by population + inflation alone but, no, not entirely.
A $80.4 billion budget is 6.8% of TX 2010 GDP.
How's that compare for a state the size & population of Texas? Well, CA's budget is almost 33% larger and around 9% of state GDP.
Despite the alarmist look of the numbers, spending's under control in Texas even though it rose about 1 point in 10 years.
If I factor in inflation over 10 years, population increases, Katrina refugees and illegal aliens, I’d say he did pretty well.
Obama and Obama supporters make the same excuses.
The difference is somewhere around an order of magnitude.
