With a lot of media attention, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin visited the nations capital over the weekend to kick off a bus tour, in which she will visit various national landmarks. But some see the trip as a campaign stunt for a possible 2012 presidential campaign.
On Mondays Special Report, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer offered his thoughts on the bus tour, but admitted he wasnt clear on what was motivating it.
I dont know its more eccentric than usual, this event, Krauthammer said. She says she is going around to highlight the foundation of the country. I dont want to be picky but generally we say the founding of the country. I know Ill get e-mail on that.
Regardless of the motivation for the tour, Krauthammer suggested it would keep Palins brand fresh. He also noted that it would be problematic if both Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and Palin ran for president, citing an unscientific Fox News poll.
But does the country need reminding about the Constitution and the Gettysburg Concord, which is not in New Hampshire, its in Massachusetts? Im not sure what she is doing except to say Im with Juan [Williams]. I think if she is still here with Fox, she is not running. She is not running. What I think she is doing to trying to keep the brand vibrant. During the next 18 months when all the attention will be to other candidates, and she showed what she can do. At Rolling Thunder she came, she saw, she sucked all the oxygen out of the room. There is nobody who can do that as she can. But as we saw in the poll, it looks as if she and Bachmann would be splitting this constituency that they have. And Bachmann, you know, this is unscientific poll but she clearly can represent that position and draw as Palin does, equally well.
Later during segment, Krauthammer clarified his remarks, saying he confused a Palin gaffe with a Bachmann gaffe.
Let me just say, it was Bachmann who slipped up on Concord, not Palin, Krauthammer said. I didnt mean to imply otherwise. But Bachmann is a stronger and more organized candidate for that constituency.
Watch:
(VIDEO AT LINK)
Palin needs to plan a few of these ‘gaffs’
Start by saying she plans to visit “all 57 states” and see what the media has to say about that
I love it that she had “Rolling Thunder” written on her hand and a Georgew Bush “miss me yet” bumper sticker on her bike.
DEAR GOD PLEASE MAKE THIS WOMAN PRESIDENT. And also please make Michelle Bachman Vice President.
Amen.
My experience has been that when someone prefaces a remark like CK did here, that is exactly what he meant to be “picky!”
Word for the day!
Well that understandable...after all, we tend to be gun toting, independent, Bible thumping folks and that just doesn’t please the elite who would take over everything...even what we eat and drink...they are very ambitious, believe me!
Please show me the outsiders who she has on her team. Which outsiders is she going to put in her cabinet? From what I can see, she is just another pundit with no connections to the real world of business, technology, or even academia. The result will be another presidency with the same Rove, Axelrod, etc political triangulators and horse traders.
I don’t see a problem with what he said, either.
I agree with C.K. that Palin should have gone out into the Wilderness, not of Alaska, but of Elks Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, etc, and delivered thoughtful addresses on matters crucial to American domestic and foreign policy.
But instead she decided to emphasize her brand and to make money. Oh, well, that’s why I’m not in PR.
The guy who looks like a 90 year old Howdy DOODY, calling someone eccentric. Now that's a GIANT LOL!
"In 1978, Krauthammer quit medical practice to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Jimmy Carter administration, and began contributing to The New Republic magazine. During the presidential campaign of 1980, Krauthammer served as a speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale"
Never trust a mole who worked for the vermin like Carter/Mondale.
Did you actually read the post? Karl Rove, Kristol,Kraut, etc get money for giving their opinions, and advising people running for office. Sarah wants nothing to do with this bunch of 60-40 so called Pubbie Bungholes. Sarah does not care what they have to say, and they know it. They have already jumped the shark with her, she has proved that she does not need them. They need her because without her 2010 would not have happened, and 2012 will be dead without her.
Ok.
I’ve never heard Rush say that Perry is his “dream candidate”...”a true conservative”. It would help if you would provide a link.
Admin, there’s a funny thing that pops up on this poster’s nic when you hover your mouse over it.
Is that a new feature I don’t know about?
Yep...definitely something funny when I hover my mouse over that nic.
I’ve been down the list of posters on this thread, and didn’t have that same reaction.
“Ive never heard Rush say that Perry is his dream candidate...a true conservative. It would help if you would provide a link.”
He said it in a telephone interview with Greta Van Susteran last week....She asked him who his dream candidate would be and he did reply it would be Perry.....Also called him a “full throated, pedal to the metal true conservative” ect......
