It is nearly May. Sarah Palin, once the darling of the political Right, still has not committed to running for president in 2012. Although she has a political action committee, she has yet to even formally announce a presidential exploratory committee. Some say she will; others say she won't. And Palin is as ambiguous as ever...
It has been nearly a foregone conclusion that Sarah Palin would run for president in 2012, especially after her pronouncements alluding to just that after losing the 2008 national election as Sen. John McCain's running mate. But as campaign season has approached Palin has seen a precipitous dive in her poll numbers, prompting some, like avid Palin supporter Bill Krystal, to suggest that the former governor of Alaska would trust her political instincts and decide not to run for the GOP nomination in 2012. But then she said in an interview on April 19 with Fox News' Sean Hannity that it was still "too early to declare."
So will she or won't she?
In Iowa, home of the first delegate election, the Iowa Caucus, the presence of an advocate of Palin's candidacy seems to have Iowans divided in their belief that Palin will actually run. The Wall Street Journal reported this past week that California lawyer Peter Singleton has been a one-man advocacy team for Palin over the past few months, attending events and fundraisers, meeting with GOP county leaders and Republican officials throughout the state. He insists he isn't a part of Palin's political team, a claim that is seconded by Palin insiders. However, his championing of Palin and his insistence that she will eventually throw her political hat into the ring has many in the state, including some prominent Republicans, thinking otherwise.
But one man's presence in Iowa does not a political campaign make. Many also note a lack of Palin representatives on the ground in Iowa, not to mention no indication of anyone searching for office space from which to direct a campaign should one begin.
Just a few days prior to the Journal's article about the Palin uber-advocate, Fox News' Sean Hannity broadcast a two-segment remote interview with Palin. She told the host of "Hannity," "I think it is too early to declare a candidacy. I think it's too early for anyone."
Thus far, only a few Republicans, all relatively minor characters in the GOP universe like political consultant Fred Karger and former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson, have announced their candidacy.
When Hannity pressed her on the subject of at least forming a presidential exploratory committee, Palin said she thought that it was too early to do that as well. She added, "And you know I've never really run for anything conventionally over the last couple of decades. I've just jumped in and done it when I know it's the right thing to do. So it's going to be an unconventional run if I so chose to do that."
Palin might follow the format of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who has noted that he has put together a committee to explore the possibility of running for president, instead of formally committing to a presidential exploratory committee. Gingrich insiders have noted he is considering simply announcing his candidacy for president, but that will not be until late May or June.
Some that do not believe it is too early and have announced exploratory committees include former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum. Texas representative Ron Paul has also announced a "testing the waters" committee.
But Sarah Palin does not suffer the constraint of fundraising limitations and name recognition as many of the other potential candidates. Her political action committee, SarahPAC, continues to take in donations, regardless of whether or not she runs for president. And the former Alaska governor has become a media mainstay by being a controversial political figure, a reality show celebrity, a Fox News political consultant, and a bestselling author -- all of which work in her favor. They also work against her.
The latest polls see Palin dropping in support for a presidential candidacy among Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents. Three consecutive monthly Gallup polls (February - April) saw her support drop from 16 to 12 to 10 percent.
The first national Republican debate is in early May. The first delegate election is scheduled for February 2012 in Iowa.
I think Sarah will run. As you mentioned, she can put together money and organization much more quickly than others (like Pawlenty). She can enter the race at a time of her choosing.
Sarah is running, there is no one better than her.
Ten million people donating $100 each to Sarah Palin will be one billion dollars. We can make that happen.
The RINOs are working hard to find ten thousand people who can donate $100,000 each.
Which group translates to more votes?

I’ve saved up money only for her. I mean that seriously, too.

You’re both right. My money isn’t the only money sitting on the sideline waiting for her to announce and the grand poohbah’s and other *hopeful’s* are well aware of that fact, also.
Me too. I’m convinced there are many more than 10 million people across this USA determined to straighten out this mess.
The WSJ continues its long commitment to elitism; what a surprise!

.
20 million real Americans willing to give $25 could finance this election.
she’s the only one getting my money as well.
Once you ‘announce’ you are officially a candidate there are all kinds of legal ramifications.
I am going to donate the maximum I can to her- i may save some for Trump just to thank him for giving obama the $hits over this BC issue
It sure will, 2DV. We know who we are and what we are doing on her behalf. And don’t need no stinking media announcement to work for her. She has an army of people like us ALREADY passing the word, and preparing for action.....we are in place and ready for the call...a modern day Committee of Correspondence as in the days of the American Revolution. All we need is the firing of that first shot to turn the Committee of Correspondence into The Minute Men !
Vet, I think about 15 million voted in all the GOP primaries put together. Maybe 1% or 2% will do any campaigning (for all the candidates put together).
They will hire big time staff in Iowa. Over 100.
While I would support her, I feel she is far more effective drawing fire and protecting others, much like Jupiter protects the earth from asteroids.

Now THAT speaks volumes about who this woman really is...
Palin and her aide Rebecca Mansour have already given the green-light, without officially announcing. I've highlighted tweets that Rebecca Mansour has retweeted and the other hints that Palin has given over the past few months:

Most notably, her aide is pushing Organize4Palin. Check out this tweet from Rebecca Mansour:
