Not a fan: Krauthammer calls Palin 'rather weak' and gives her 'no chance of winning' in 2012
The Daily Caller ^ | December 31, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Is the idea that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could be America’s next president laughable? Not only to many on the left, but also to conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.

On Friday’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Krauthammer offered several reasons why Palin shouldn’t be considered the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.

“What do you mean if not Sarah Palin in 2012?” Krauthammer said. “Who’s saying she’s going to be the presidential candidate? I don’t even hear her saying it. Her chances of being are smaller than half a dozen other people. If you talk to Republicans, I don’t think there are what, more than one in three who would tell you she has a chance of winning the presidency or even the nomination.”

Because of that, he said, she wasn’t the favorite.

“And she is not the favorite,” he continued. “She has a very strong core constituency but outside of that I think she is rather weak.”

Krauthammer has previously downplayed Palin’s chances and indicated he favors Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. He said Palin would not be the ideal candidate to unseat a “vulnerable” President Barack Obama.

“Her negatives are over 50 percent,” Krauthammer said. “She has no chance of winning a general election. Why would you want a candidate who is going to lose against a Democrat who is going to be vulnerable and who is also extremely ideologically ambitious?”

He even employed a Keith Olbermann catch phrase to describe Palin and said even fellow Republicans didn’t see Palin as qualified.

“A half-term governor? I’m not sure Republicans think of her as qualified.” Krauthammer said.

There is simply no one else in the current pantheon of Republican hopefuls who can beat her in a side by side comparison of qualifications for the office of president.

Qualifications, in the traditional sense, aren't important to me. She governed very effectively in a state that is like its own country in many ways. That's all I need to know as far as her resume goes. The fact that she hasn't worked a day in D.C. is a big plus for me.

My concern is her grasp of the issues and her tendency to resort to sloganeering. If she's going to win in the primary, she's going to have to get better there. She'll be sharing a stage with the likes Gingrich, Romney, possibly John Bolton, possibly Mike Pence, possibly Herman Cain, possibly Jeb Bush -- all of whom are going to be very formidable debaters. If she gets outclassed in the debates, the race will likely default to Romney. None of us want that.

I'm not down on her. I think the world of her. And I don't care about her negatives right now -- Hillary had similar negatives in 2006/07 and she would have beaten McCain handily in 2008. I just want her to get better on articulating issues and solutions, and I haven't seen that yet. I have her book on Kindle, I'll read it as soon as I finish "Decision Points" (which is very good, btw). Maybe I'll see some of what I'm looking for.

Sarah P. Needs more gravitas before she can be president. Maybe she needs to be in the Cabinate or Senate first.

"Gravitas"???

Sarah Palin has more "gravitas" in her pinkie toe than the whole rest of the Republican field, combined.

That said, you're firmly in the sheeple herd, if you're buying that worn out meme from the MSM (which is the ONLY place you'll hear it).

You’re hopeless.

Oh for petes sake.

How about you express support for someone, rather than whining about Palin?

“You’re making the mistake of confusing enthusiasm with infatuation, IMO.”

That’s because I can’t tell the difference with some of her supporters. And I AM a supporter, I’m just not an f’ing Moonie about it.

There are very few here, if any, that would be properly designated a “Moonie” or “Manson-Like” with their following of Mrs. Palin, IMO.

I tend to think of it more as “Chivalry”. The spirited defense makes a lot more sense when you look at it from that perspective (as far as male posters go, which seems to be where the bulk of defenders lie).

Hey, you asked the question, dipstick. How about you blow it out your condescending arse? If she runs I will vote for her, but I won’t be carrying on about it like a school girl. She’s a freaking politician. Get over it.

the media already crucified Sarah Palin during the 2008 election...NO ONE was ever treated as she was...and she came back and kicked A$$ and she is NOT afraid of Charles Kraut nor the media...she knows what she is doing and she will make a great LEADER...

we working, tax paying Americans will come out in FORCE to support...watch us ROAR in 2012....we have just begun...

Herman Cain, great public speaker, smart business man...there are millions of them out there just like him...he is not a house hold name, SARAH PALIN IS....she is a Powerhouse to be reckoned with....

HAPPY NEW YEAR FREEPERS...GOD BLESS AMERICAN

Fine, “just say” it to someone else. Support doesn’t equal unquestioning devotion (well, maybe to you). I’ll vote, I won’t worship...and I won’t call those who support someone else the “enemy”.

I’m not your stepandfetchit. Do your own research. Mitch Daniels, the Governor of Indiana, personally straightened out the budget through a brilliant revamping of the state’s budget process that left conservative economists amazed and impressed. He is a deeply capable individual who himself generates ideas and solutions, in the tradition of true leadership, not someone who merely regurgitates on TV that day’s coaching from her briefers.

We cannot afford to have a lightweight as our standard bearer. Sarah Palin got touched by the fickle finger of fate in 2008 and rose to prominence. Nothing that she’s done since then indicates that she truly has the capacity to lead the nation.

Well, actually I don’t know what TLC is, but assume it’s some sort of a television channel or the other. We live in a remote area and live a sort of primitive life; cutting and splitting our own wood, gardening, stuff like that. We only have a computer because I’ve had to use the word processor to produce correspondence, statements, inventories and other stuff in our business. - My eyes are getting problems, so any time invested in reading anybody’s books has to be very little and very slow. I’m sure Herman Cain is impressive, but right now, who knows where this 2012 election is going. One thing I know, if the RNC keeps pushing RINO’s, they might as well hang it up. Maybe he (Cain) would thrash Sarah Palin in a debate, maybe not. Without a teleprompter, Obama is like Ned in the Third Reader, that much I can safely say. - Palin has performed quite well without a teleprompter when her teleprompter was messed with as a prank at some university or the other. - I sort of doubt she runs; will more likely campaign for a good conservative candidate if one runs.

You are seriously misrepresenting every point made in this thread.

The only fanaticism this poster sees on FR these days - is posters like you - frenetically bashing Palin.

More and more, you people, sound exactly like what liberals say.

Just saying. It’s like Saul Alinsky could have written another book. Called;

“Rules for RINOS”.

She'll be sharing a stage with the likes Gingrich, Romney, possibly John Bolton, possibly Mike Pence, possibly Herman Cain, possibly Jeb Bush -- all of whom are going to be very formidable debaters.

Perhaps you've missed some her live spots on Fox News. Sarah is fast on her feet, and has an exceptional command of the issues.

Yes, she's done her share of sloganeering, but the incidence of that is small in comparison to her extemporaneous, in-depth elaboration on subjects of all sorts. Unfortunately, those don't play well in 15 second sound bites on television, and don't serve the MSM's agenda at all.

Maybe you recall the Palin - Biden debate from the 2008 primary. If you watched carefully, you could see that Sarah was literally chomping at the bit to break free and really debate Biden. She appeared to me like someone who was being tightly restrained, and I'm sure she was. If she had been allowed to speak her mind, I think she would have embarrassed old Joe.

I think what voters will take away from a debate with Palin vs Cain, Huck, Romney, Newt, et al, is a sense that this woman doesn't just know the issues - she understands and embodies the basic spirit of Americanism better than any of the others.

What Palin has, is correct instincts. She automatically seems to default to the most pro-American position, no matter the topic. In other words, she doesn't have to spin up the processors in her brain to come up with the best possible answer. She simply speaks straight from her core values, which just happen to be fundamentally, originalist American.

Naturally, that resonates deeply with American voters who are terrified at the direction our country is going, and it transcends all issue-based policy positions.

For me, this is the primary reason I strongly support her for president. Issues will come and go, but without a firm moral compass, and a rock-solid American orientation, no amount of familiarity with major policy will guarantee that our president will make the correct choices for the nation. Sarah's got the correct orientation for our country.

Some are doing a darn good imitation of one.

Well, that does make sense. What doesn’t make sense is that (drum roll) she’s NOT their girlfriend (or mother, sister, or daughter). She’s a POLITICIAN...attractive, right on the key issues, and charismatic...but she’s still a politician.

You’re an idiot. Only the most drooling adorer could take anything I have said as “frenetically bashing Palin”. I financially supported Angle, O’Donnell, Wilson, and physically and financially supported Hayworth. RINO my ass...it’s idiots like you who give Palin supporters a bad name. To reiterate - you’re an idiot.
