Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney, whos campaigned hard for Republicans across the country as he eyes a presidential run in 2012, earned high praise but couldnt secure a solid endorsement from some GOP governors yesterday.
I think hes going to be one of several people that are going to be seriously considered for the nomination, said Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, who was recently elected after Romney helped his campaign. Hes an incredibly talented spokesman for the conservative cause.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist declined to comment on Romneys 2012 chances yesterday, saying hes too busy running his own state.
Crist is one of several rumored GOP challengers also eyeing a run for the White House in 2012, along with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
It remains to be seen, simply because I dont think all the potential challengers are a known quantity yet, said South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds. I think hes a very strong contender in the future.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer also declined to officially back Romney, but called him a very qualified candidate.
He certainly is well respected in the state of Arizona, and well look and see what happens in that upcoming election, Brewer said.
Romney hasnt officially announced hell make a second try at the White House, instead saying hes focused on the midterm elections in Congress. He said hell make a decision after Nov. 2.
While Republican governors may not be firmly behind Romney, Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, said Romney has strong support in his home state.
He certainly seems to have some popularity in Tennessee - some of the key Republicans have been supporting him, and I suspect in the primary here hell end up doing well, Bredesen said.
If Crist is the nominee, the GOP will go the way of the Whigs. He will be lucky to hold his own liberal state.
Romney can make lots of money for people who print bumperstickers, posters, make media ads, are consultants, even if he loses. He will pour millions into his loss, making profit for thousands.
He’s a gun owner and lifelong hunter, let none of us ever forget. Oh, and a Life Member of the NRA who went to Shot Show with Wayne LaPierre!
Didn’t he also hold a world-class dog show on the roof of his station wagon?
>>Charlie Crist declined to comment on Romneys 2012 chances yesterday, saying hes too busy running his own state.
Yeah. Running it right into the ground!
>>went to Shot Show with Wayne LaPierre
The guy that does photo ops with Harry Reid and says that Reid is pro-gun?
May as well ask me to vote for Carter.
Where are the conservatives with testicular fortitude?

I have mixed feelings about Romney. His record is not as conservative as he tries to make it out to be. On the other hand, if he gets the nomination, I will support him enthusiastically.
Whatever we do, we can’t allow perfection to become the enemy of the good.
Unless, of course, McCain somehow manages to get nominated again, at which time I will renounce politics and become a hermit.
I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.
~Michael Reagan, radio host and son of President Ronald Reagan
Complete with a garden hose cleanup!
Romney is responsible for RomneyCare in Mass. I will not support Romney if he gets the nomination.
Obama light isn’t going to cut it.
The world is getting pretty strange, innit?
Understatement of the year award. In what world could he even be considered to have conservative leanings?
He's a yankee liberal, I don't care what party he claims. Period. Paragraph. Turn the page. Amen.

He gets the nomination and we are F*CK*D!!! Obama wins re-election. The GOP can’t win by simply being “less liberal” than the other guy.
GOP? What a bunch of losers. McCain? Steele?
They don't represent me.
The weak sisters are afraid that eating the opponent's liver on main street will be bad press. Someone might not like them.
But press is press. Long as they spell the name right.

Errrr...NO!
Mitts record as MA governor shows that he is hardly conservative. He is a RINO.As such he never can be elected to the office of president.
Slick Willard = Epic Fail.
Yes and the NRA backs Harry Reid. Nough said.
I’ll go for Barbie before I vote for the Ken doll. At the very least she looks much more natural holding a weapon.
There is that Mormon thing, too.
