Taking Ron Paul Seriously
The Atlantic Online ^ | May 11, 2007 | Andrew Sullivan

The condescension to and mockery of the sole Republican candidate who seems to care about individual liberty has begun to tick me off. Chris Matthews can be heard groaning "Oh, God," after Paul spoke of the "original intent" of the Founders with respect to the Constitution. And in the YouTube clip below, Rudy Giuliani actually seems to be guffawing after Paul's defense of habeas corpus. I'm glad Paul's supporters are fighting back on the web. He deserves more respect than he has gotten thus far, not least because compared to the pandering of his competitors, Paul actually seems to believe what he says. And what he says has more to do with conservatism than the crap the rest of them are peddling. Here's a clip worth watching again:

Duncan Hunter is the only Reagan Republican in the race. He is 100% conservative and has a realistic take on the war in Iraq and elsewhere. He was the chairman of the Armed Servies Committee in the House for 13 years. And he voted against NAFTA in 1993. Check him out. gohunter08.com

No surprise that the in the closet Leftists, pretending to be "Conservatives" are all in hysterics for a guy who cannot even win 1% in any primary. - Ron Paul has ZERO chance of wining anything.

Your own hysteria is showing Johnnie. Why the big hate for a conservative who is [granted] confused about why we need to be in Iraq?

Everyone here knows that Paul has little or no chance of getting the nomination.
Meanwhile, he's doing a great job in the debates of showing up the Rinos, like Guiliani, from the Conservatives, like Duncan.

Leave him be. - Give your hate a rest.

We have to get off this TV/Media hype and get on with the business of backing someone who is real and can win. Duncan Hunter is the only Reagan Reublican running. He has been in Congress since 1980.

He voted against NAFTA in 1993. He wrote the bills that are building the fence on the US/Mexican Border. He is 100% conservative!

Paul cannot get the nomination for several reasons. Running on a democrat issue is the main one. They are already protraying him as a nut. That is what the media will do to anyone who is serious

But...They can't destroy Duncan Hunter that way

He is the only Reagan republican running and his postitions are 100% conservative.

He’s against illegal immigration just like a Republican is supposed to be. But I have been scratching my head for years wondering why Bush and his band of so-called “Republicans” haven’t done anything about it for years, and now, have finally shown their true colors to some who have not seen it, by giving amnesty to millions of illegals and encouraging even more to flood our country and social systems. I knew they would. Corporate whores don’t care about you or me.

Today’s Republican party is nothing but a group of globalists and corporate whores. Corporate whores who will sellout the American middle-class if it benefits their corporate friends. And sellout our national security by letting millions of illegals from not only Mexico but from all over the world flood in to the country so that big business has a free supply of cheap labor.

Haven’t any of you wondered about this before? Haven’t you wondered why the president of the USA after 9-11 was not concerned about closing the borders to prevent Muslim terrorists from entering the county? I wondered about it. Unfortunately, like a lot of Americans, for a year or so I gave Bush the benefit of the doubt. And I have been screaming about this ever since then.

Didn’t anyone wonder why a “good ole boy” who is “tough on terror” would call the Minute Men at the border “vigilantes” instead of thanking them for trying to protect our country? I did.

Now, with Bush’s new amnesty bill, even the most out of touch right-wing voter can hopefully figure this out. Sometimes it takes a slap directly in the face for some before they wakeup.

Well, you have just been slapped, some of you. Now, what are you going to do about it?

Because he gives a damn about this country. He’s motivated by love of country, not ambition. The rest of them are all a bunch of phonies (Democrat and Republican alike). The end of the Republic is coming if we don’t wake up. Habeus Corpus can be eliminated like “that” in the remaining year and a half of the reign of the Bush Crime Family.

Scooter should never have been put in the position of having to lie in the first place.

Fitzfong knew who the leaker was before the investigation started, yet he let it take place.

I’m not defending the lying (debatable), but to equate Libby with His Slickness is more than a little fatuous.

Well, the Ron Paul defenders have resorted to citing the 9-11 Omission, The Nation with an article from a guy that wants to impeach Bush, and now Andrew Sullivan.

It's one thing to quote Washington and Jefferson to make Paul's case. It's another to cite such morons from this day and age.

I’d love to see a Hunter/Huckabee ticket but tonight as I left the parking lot at work I saw my first 2008 bumper sticker and it was for Ron Paul.

I amazed at how often some of the "Paulies" sound like they're using Reid/Peolosi talking points.

Given the state of Paul and his campaign, I think you can call them "Paulbearers".
