California Senate: Feinstein by 22 (slips in latest poll)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 31, 2006

California's U.S. Senate race has tightened slightly, but not enough to furrow the brow of the Democratic incumbent. Easily absorbing a five-point decline in her lead since July, Senator Dianne Feinstein now leads former Republican state Senator Richard Mountjoy 56% to 34%.

Too bad the Gub has sat on his endorsement..

Mountjoy could use the support. but considering the gUb is only out for himself.. no surprise.

In fact, expect the Gub to endorse diFi if his numbers over PHILth slip.

I'm surprised by this poll. Mountjoy is a long-ago state Senator who was considered a firebrand even among the most conservative of his fellow legislators. His name is tailor-made for dirty jokes and he's even older than Feinstein. He should be trailing by more than this.

Could it be the border security issue?

Feinstein is Red China's most effective Senator. This despicable flack should be in prison.

Can you justify that comment? Which of these "most conservative" of his fellow legislators feel/felt that way about Dick? Can you give me a name or share an anecdote? Just one.

Having once lived in CA, I remember it from a California Journal article. I'm not saying his coleagues disliked him, just that they considered him a firebrand.

I'm thinking that maybe The Club For Growth should give this race a look.

It's too late for the Glub for Growth to intervene on his behalf, imo.

Better they win battles to topple Chafee and such..

California politics will implode eventually anyway..

Sure. Well everyone who throws out that view these days has the same kind of recollection. Some nebulous memory with no names or dates.

I know Dick personally, and I know most of the "conservatives" who have served with him. No one thinks that way. The only people who do are liberals and moderates who say stuff like that off-the-record for LA Times reporters.

Dick Mountjoy's major policy positions are 100% in agreement with the state party platform. That's what upsets the anonymously-quoted set in Sacramento. It's cowardly name calling and nothing more. Dick is a decent man, a lifelong activist and he represents what it means to be a Reagan Republican.

It says much that he's made some inroads, in spite of having very little money.

Say what you want about Feinstein but she knows how to play politics. There have been a few times where she has turned into an old-school Democrat. CA Republicans should focus on Boxer, who's the more stupider of the two.

Let's see: 22 point deficit. Los Angeles and San Francisco media markets. I think the Club would get a better return on investment in other races. Like just about anywhere.

This is a fluke. And it's not even a close fluke. It's just a fluke that makes it look a little bit closer then it is.

A corpse with an R next to it's name is bound to get something like 33% of the vote.

Feinstein will get over 60% of the vote.

Not saying I want it that way, but that's the way it's gonna be.

Has California gone that far left? Is this the same state that elected Ronald Reagan twice as Governor?

The people who elected Reagan as Governor (in 1966 and 1970) have either moved away or died.

A nice writeup of the race with an emphasis on Congress and seats to be gained or lost comes from Wikipedia, United States House elections, 2006

It gives a great deal of organized detail on the election.

Thats not true, I know a lot of people that are still alive and voted for Regan. They just don't remember doing it. Montjoy could win if the CRP and RNC do a better job of getting Republicans to vote instead of staying home.

California is so far left that most voters here can't even see the middle road. Sad, but the state that first put RR into political prominence has no conservatives that can win a statewide majority. And, no, Arnold isn't even close to being a conservative.
