Well when you have an average lifespan of 20+ less years than normal heterosexuals the idea of smoking doesn't seem so fatal or damaging now does it.This and the observation that gay men actively seek pleasure and the consequences of this behaviour do not seem to matter much.

The cigarette is a PHALIC symbol and it satisfies the urge for them to have something in their mouth! GET IT?When the word 'gay' is used it normally denotes both male and female homosexuals. So what about the females?
Also, does this reasoning work for heterosexual smokers?

Because homosexuals hate generally hate themselves and seek to engage in self-destructive behavior? I guess that's what happens when one engages in deviant and sinful behavior.
It's common knowledge that drug and alcohol abuse is also way above the norm for homosexuals.
