GREAT POST! The opening comment above was well worth the price of admission!
Inasmuch as liberals are demanding that Americans ritualistically proclaim, "Islam is a religion of peace," Muslims might do their part by not killing people all the time...See also the book on Islam that Ann recommends:
From amazon.com:"...What is Islam, truly, when you peek behind the veil? Who can explain this culture with clarity and precision?Raised as Sunni Muslims by a leader in the Muslim faith, brothers Ergun and Emir Caner have lived the Muslim life. Now Christians and highly respected theology professors, the Caner brothers are in a unique position to present an unprecedented insider¹s look at Islam.
Unveiling Islam is a sympathetic yet uncompromising presentation of the entire scope of Islam--its practices, ethics, and beliefs, including the primary differences between Christianity and Islam. With a basic knowledge of Islam in place, the authors then present a practical strategy Christians can use to open a productive dialogue with Muslims.."

I don't agree with President Bush on his defense of Islam but you gotta it hand to him he's given the world a memorable and dowright ironic sobriquet for such an evil and depraved cult. It helps make them stand out every time they refrain from turning the other cheek in the tradition of Jesus and his ministry. From http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/09/20010917-11.html:

Listen to the President's RemarksTHE PRESIDENT: "Thank you all very much for your hospitality. We've just had a -- wide-ranging discussions on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans and Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslims in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens.
These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.
The English translation is not as eloquent as the original Arabic, but let me quote from the Koran, itself: In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.
The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace..."

That about says it!
Yet.
Anyway, Jay Leno argued with him and recounted a story about his wife, Mavis, who for years had headed a charity group that was trying to help the women of Afghanistan. Leno said Mavis went to the White House to ask them to provide help for women in the post-Taliban society. He said she'd always been a liberal Democrat from a big union family who'd never supported Republicans, so she didn't think they'd even talk to her. Instead, she was ushered into a meeting with both Colin Powell and Condi Rice, who asked her what the Afghan women needed. He said she told them, and she was stunned that not only did they listen to her, but they promised to do what she suggested -- and then, they actually DID it! He made no specific reference to Clinton, but I inferred that he was saying this was a complete change from the previous administration, which would have ushered her in, listened to her, hit her up for a big campaign donation, promised to help the Afghan women, then done nothing but take her money.
Maher's response was the same response he gives to everyone who presents facts that destroy his argument: he denies that they're true. He just brushed it off, saying they probably only listened to her because she was Jay Leno's wife and Bush wanted to buy her off to keep Leno from making fun of him on TV. Yeah, I'm sure Bush is terrified of the thought that Jay Leno MIGHT start doing jokes about him! That must be headed off at all costs!
And liberals call BUSH a moron!
