[history]
The Bush administration wants to grant amnesty to hundreds of thousands of Mexican illegal aliens now in the United States, according to the new U.S. ambassador to Mexico.
Tony Garza, sworn in this week at the White House, told reporters in Mexico City that reaching an accord legalizing the status of Mexican immigrants

"If we don't do something about their status, we will be admitting that our country has a permanent underclass," Mr. Garza said.
Once again, as with the PLO and Israel, granting the criminals concessions as a reward for their behavior. This type of 'compassionate conservatism' is not wise. In fact, 'compassionate conservatism' seems a joke. 'Liberal light' is more like it.

As both major parties move left, there is room on the right.

There is a demand for Mexican labor in this country. It is silly to deny it. The construction business would stop entirely without it, along with much of the agricultural, and even the service industry.
They aren't depressing wages because they're not competing for jobs that you want. Or are they? Name the jobs that illegals have that you want.
What we need to do is allow them to work in those jobs as legal visitors to the US and to pay taxes that cover the social costs of their visit.
Mexican labor not only helps our economy, it's essential. But it's way past time that we regulate it instead ignoring it.

Each time there is an amnesty it encourages more to come here illegally. We are one amnesty away from our leading imports being poverty, and disease. >>>>>>>>
How true......how stupid is our gov. to keep offering amnesties, that DO NOT WORK. Deport 'em all. Enforce
imm. laws. If you want to come to the US, you HAVE to
come LEGALLY, or we don't want you.

These are Mr. Garza's own comments, representing America in Mexico. How is this 'yanking your chain'? The Wash Times is hardly a 'chain yanker' for the most part. If Bush hadn't signed CFR, it wouldn't be left to 'legislate' from the judiciary branch. C'mon, wake up!

Exactly.

My sentiments to the letter.

So they are still an 'underclass'?? Did you read the article??
"If we don't do something about their status, we will be admitting that our country has a permanent underclass," Mr. Garza said.
The inability of die-hard GOP and Bush fanatics to be intellectually honest about the pros and cons of any and all administrations' policies is inexcusable.

I am absolutely and unequivocally against more amnesty. Bush will lose support--more than he gains in Hispanic votes, and he will make millions of new Democrat voters. They will vote Dem. even if just LEGAL aliens instead of illegal or citizens.
Surely most Hispanic Americans can see this, or can they.

Oh, bs. They would if they knew that welfare didn't exist and unemployment benefits would never be extended again.
To: 4Freedom
Better yet, eliminate welfare and unemployment benefits. If people that can work would rather die first, let them. Ridiculous making a 'minimum wage' argument out of this.

LOL!! That's the reaction I have too! LOVE that graphic!

I am in favor of a program that requires the illegals to register, receive permission to stay as long as they are employed, pay taxes, and eventually leave.>>>>>>>>
How much FEDERAL TAX does an uneducated mexican with
4/5/6/ dependants pay ?? Who pays for health care.??

[Nobody is "bringing in" workers. They show up here because they are motivated.]
Many large cities now have a large 'centers' designed for the illegals to congregate so employers can come hire them. (Paid for by taxpayers money) 'Motivated' - well I guess you are right.]
[ The middle class still exists and always will. We are no longer employees, we are the small business owners and many hire the illegals. I don't.]
What are you doing to do when these people begin to get small business loans (or grants) and begin to compete with you and put you out of business because they will not be forced to comply with all the regulations citizens do, or pay taxes on employees, and also have the benefit of not having to repay the loans or grants. It will be truly sad, if by then, everyone will be convinced of the fallacies about American workers you have espoused.
[Many in our low end workforce have found it more lucrative to collect from government programs than to go to work everyday.]
Why do you think the illegals can afford to work here and still send home enough money to account for 1/3 of Mexico's economy. THEY are the ones getting all the freebies.
Now as far as low-end - since when did construction work - you know dry wall, heavy equipment operators, and bank tellers, computer people, etc. become low-end work? I can tell you - when the illegals began coming and the taxpayers began subsidizing their living expense.
[They don't show up half the time or quit after a bender. Then they complain because some illegal takes their job.]
Sorry that is just too broad and it is an attempt to justify the illegal actions of an employer. It is just not true. These people were working when the illegals began coming.
[ It's the middle class who is hiring dependable labor that fuels this argument.]
I agree many middle class people are hiring these people - your point? Does that make the employer any less reprehensible because he is middle class? .
Someone was doing this job before the illegals came and we were prospering and growing as a nation.

Everyone forgets someone needs to clean toilets, make beds in hotels and stoop to pick lettuce. White men don't do that kind of work Typical liberal comment. If my memory serves me right, all these jobs were done before we were invaded by people willing to do these jobs for peanuts.

Those who defended this nation with their blood to fight to end the wars and start the peace, are spinning in their graves as we let potential trouble making people come here in sloppy ways.
To: Sabertooth
You gotta link to those details?
Where is it mentioned anywhere that Bush is contemplating "getting rid of 85% of the established illegal aliens and 100% of the illegals with less than ten years here?"
We have been down the "Amnesty now, enforcement later" road before. I'm not interested in an overt handshake promise, let alone a divined one.>>>>>>>>>>>
I asked the same thing........
There's no mention about the other 85%...
The only fair (and PC) thing to do is DEPORT 'em ALL &
let them get in line to be identified, health checked,
back round checked, and enter the U.S. according to OUR LAWS. Then the gov. needs to ENFORCE our laws.

[I agree. I've no problem with us being a nation of immigrants]
I don't intend this as an attack - just food for thought.
Words and phrases are used over and over by propagandist for a reason. The phrase, 'we are a nation of immigrants' is used to imply we should not be too hard on poor people who just want a better life, etc., because, after all our forefathers came here from another shore. This phrase makes it seem if you are against this travesty, you are somehow being selfish.
We are not a nation of immigrants - we are a nation of Americans. Once you become an American - you are no longer an immigrant.
Pleae watch and see who is using this phrase the most - it is the ones who want you to feel guilt because you have a problem with illegal or so-called legal immigration.
